I want to spend under $500 and build a very small setup to record singing, and importantly screaming, Im just unsure about what microphone is cheap and will have quality for both, and what audio interface or mixer would work well, anyone want to share their thoughts?

I just bought a Zoom H2 for $100...it might fit your needs.

"Singing and screaming?
Ok.

Like maybe an honest record of someone in a room?
Easy. Find a little combo recorder with a decent XLR mic inputs you like- check out a few, not particularly critical- $3 or $400, and a Naiant omni mic. $80 ish.

try looking on musicians friend for recording packages. they're perfect for you.

this one comes with a light version of pro tools, and M-box (nice interface), and MXL 990 which is a very nice mic and its also a god value. you can get these for $100 and under. i have 2 MXL990's. its also got a shockmount.

the only thing you will need (and you WILL need it) is a pop filter which you can get for like 15-30 bucks reasonably.

that will leave you like 75 bucks. my advice, get headphones lol

Is the $500 just for the mic? or Mic + Mic Preamp + Converter + Headphone Preamp + Isolated Headphones + ?????

Zoom H2/H4/H4n are respectable options, they even have onboard mixing / multi-tracking abilities iirc. Certainly not high end, but good enough in most cases.

As far as screaming, if you don't need to isolate from your room, you could always back away from the mic and handle that. Or do that broadcaster thing with 90 degrees off axis for screams, 6"+-ish for normal voice, 2"-ish for whisper, or whatever the specs are for that. I'm a trombonist, so what do I know.

Not that we know much about what you're wanting to capture. Mono? Stereo? 5.1 Surround? 7.1 Surround? What's acceptable to you on the budget? Sounds like a cell phone? Or something mildly better?

i was thinking about what they have in the packages only cheaper(Mic, Stand, Cord, popfilter, and either and interface or a mixer of somesort.
specificaly i was thinking about:
-MXLv63m
-mogami gold neglex cord
-behringer XENYX 1202FX
and sennheiser HD280 phones

Well im not sure im just trying to get some quality vocal tracks to put on some Electronica tracks, some of my stuff is on my page not all of it though
