I bought one of those drum mic clamps- like $14 bucks- what a rip off- but the design gave me a good idea. Basically I'm making my own for little money.
Go to Radio Shack (that's the only place that I've found these) and look for a mic clip (the springy V-type) that has a male end. They are about $3. Also pick up a regular shure type mic clip (from anywhere) Screw the two together and you've got your clamp. Not very strong though... drill a small hole through the V-clamp near the pivot point through both sides of the V. Insert a bolt through the hole and then screw a wingnut on the other side. You'll have to loosen the nut to put the clamp on what ever you are clamping it to (drum hardware, micstand...etc) once you have it in place tighten the nut and it's tightly there. you've got a nice clamp for about $5!
The V mic clamps aren't as big as the one they manufacture for the drum mic clamps, but it'll work. You also might want to put a little extra padding on the clamp to cut down on vibrations- I'm looking for some strips of rubber or some rubbery foam that will work good for that but I haven't found them exactly.
Hope you enjoyed the little project!
