Major problem with bleeding drums!

yes sacredhill i agree those shure mics are very valuable in the studio. I read in one of these posts that Bono of U2 sings thru an sm58 in the STUDIO!

This is what I've tried so far to kill some of the hat bleed on the snare track so that I could eq the snare properly: I tried a freebee Fraser plug in thats just a simple low pass eq filter. I performed an analysis on the offending hat frequency but soloing the hat track. It was like 7049 hz or something, so I typed in that amount on the low pass and let everything else pass. I was then able to pump the snare up a little while leaving the hat back. Cool! Now I can eq the crap out of the snare and it should work.

I tried reverse phasing the hat and it didnt seem to have much effect at all.

Take care,

it's not uncommon at all for some singers to use a 58 on vocals. some singers perform significantly well using them. condensors dont work as well on some people's voices.

Whenever my drums bleed, I do a healing dance, then put band-aids on them.

57 on snare top, sm58 on bottom

Maybee incorrect position of the 58 is causing your problems being such a uni directional mic and pointing up probly would'nt help...dunno.

i use a C414 condensor on bottom. i find that using a large diaphram mic helps open up the snare sound.

Uladine, I checked the site out, cant spend the $$ right now, although I do have Reason.

MiXit-G: great point and I recently was just thinking about that. I'm recording drums today, this is what I'm thinking about doing:

POSSIBLY Sennhieser421 on KICK,
CAD on OVERHEAD
sm57 on SNARE top and sm58 on bottom, both slightly pointing AWAY from hat.
beta58's on toms and opposite ride/crash.

The only change I may have to make is to flip-flop the CAD and 421 because the CAD has always gotten a great kick sound for me. But I'd love to be able to use that up top if the 421 sounds good on kick.

Anyone use Senn.421 on kick?? :)
