what's up guys i am thinking on getting a delta1010lt next week to use wit cool edit pro i also have a behringer 6 channel mixer and a audiotecnica condnser mic. would that be a wise choice or if not are similar cards around same price just as good?

Do you really need 10 ins and outs?

since your board only got 6 each...

Since you only have one mic, and I am assuming you are recording 1 instrument at once, 10 will be too much. However, I wish I had bought 1010 instead of Audiophile, which only has 2 ins and outs cuz I started recording drums...
Anyways, plan ahead if you are gonna expand in the near future.

Good luck

in terms of bang-for-your-buck - I don't really think that the 1010LT can be beat....10ins/outs (2 s/pdif), midi in/out, 2 preamps built-in, great sounding A/D converters...only downfall that I see is that converters are on the card and the ins are unbalanced....

I currently have Delta44 (which I love)....but am considering an upgrade to the 1010LT in the near future...

I've had my LT now for about 6 months. No regrets. Sounds great . . . has a ton of ins and outs . . . digital (and even word clock i/o), etc.

The unbalanced inputs aren't an issue for me at all. It has two balanced xlr ins, while the rest are unbalanced rca. I just go unbalanced out of the channel inserts on my mixer when I'm recording a lot of tracks at once. And I use the two balanced ins when I'm going one or two tracks at a time.

The preamps are only on the two balanced xlr ins. You can disengage the preamplification if you want. That's what I do. I guess I don't trust a PCI card to be able to deliver a clean, quality preamplified signal. Call me crazy.

By the way . . . I think this question belongs in the other forum (Computer Recording and Sound Cards). :)

chessrock-

how are the preamps?? have you tested them?? part of my upgrade (from Delta44) plan is to utilize the preamps built into the 1010LT....I realize that they are on the PCI card - but M-Audio makes some pretty decent outboard preamps (audiobuddy, omnistudio, dmp3) = so I thought that maybe these preamps are decent as well....

would love to hear a critique of them......

If you get a 1010LT, can you get a breakout type of box later to put on it? Since I want to get one but its hard to reach to the back of my system to plug things in.

Pratt, I wouldn't trust the LT preamps on anything critical. They probably wouldn't be too bad if you were micing a loud guitar, but when you think of all the mechanics involved in preamplifying a signal accurately, it would be kind of tough to fit it all on a PCI card. Not to mention the noisy computer environment and the +48V phantom power, which I doubt could be accurately supplied.

The LT is a great deal even without the pres. My suggestion would be to use them only in a pinch - like if you've got a mixer and you're using it's pres on most of your stuff . . . but you need two more for your tom mics or something like that.

That said, I've tried them out, and they're not half bad. Don't expect them to be anything like their outboard pres though.

Whyte Ice -- I don't think there's any way you could add a breakout box later. I would highly suggest getting a patchbay to go with it, though. It is a pain in the ass always having to plug and unplug things all the time. :)

good question.....just checked out the manual and it doesn't appear that it does (have phantom power, that is)...

chessrock - thanks for responding....I don't do anything that really could be considered 'critical' (just stuff for my own self-amusement)....and the preamps gotta be better than the ones in my behringer mixer!!

I didnt even know the delta 1010 had preamps. When i buy one, i was just gonna use the ones on my mackie board.

tyler,

the Delta 1010 doesnt have preamps....the 1010lt does have 2 channels with preamps.....

Oh the LT! Huh, I feel dumb. And that's why you guys were talking about unbalanced.
