I installed my new M-Audio 2496 but I can not get any sound. When I go into the Sound and Audio Devices Properties the Device volume is grayed out and is at the lowest setting that I can not change. In the audio section under "Sound Playback" I have these options:

M-Audio Delta Multi
M-Audio Delta AP 1/2
M-Audio Delta AP S/PDIF

I have tried all and the volume is still grayed out and still no sound. What am I missing?

I don't presonally have the 2496 but I do have an M-Audio Firewire Audiophile which is the external firewire version of the 2496 I believe. With mine, I do not control the volume from the Windows sound properties. There should be drivers and software that came along with your card. After you've installed all these there should be a user control panel. It's a tricky control panel, or at least mine is. This control panel is where you control the volume I believe. It's all about selecting the correct options regarding what input plays the what output and so on.

I currently do not have the interface hooked up right now (I am running normal computer speakers through my regular computer soundcard) and so currently cannot get to the control panel and tell you the precise configuration. Hopefully I will be able to tomorrow.

The only thing you have to do with the Windows sound properties is select the "M-Audio Delta Multi" for playback, recording, and anything else. Hope this helps.

Ah, ha...that was it...now I have sound!!! Thakn you very much!!!

Yeah, the M-Audio control panle/interface has allot going on. Anyone able to let me know what should be selected?

I am going to be running a S/PDIF from my V-amp pro to the M-audio S/PDIF in and RCA jacks from my mixer to the analog/rca jacks on the m-audio. Am I going to have to go into the m-audio sound interface each time and chose what I am recording from or will it do it automaticly?

Peter

You are going to have to select what you want to record in your recording software. Use the control panel for selecting what you want monitored. Basically if you have sound, you shouldn't have to fool around in the control panel that much, maybe just some simple fine tuning.

I just got a new M-Audio Sound card installed on my new computer. Forsome reason Mixcraft (my recording software) is not able to find it. When I try and record a sound the "Record a Sound" box opens then I can choose my sound card, when I click on "Open Recording Mixer" I get an error of a Volume Control pop-up window and it says "There is a problem with your sound hardware, to install mixer devices go to Control Panel, CLick Printers and Other Hardware, and then Click Add Hardware.

The M-Audio is working fine when playing sounds, I just can not record anything.

Anyone have this card and/or know what I might be doing wrong?

Peter

I am assuming that this sound card is full duplex so I can play and record at the same time?!?! With-in my mixing softward I did a test and it failed saying it was not. Am I missing something?

In Mixcraft can you actually select the soundcard? Or does it not even show up?

Yes, it does show up, I have a few different options:

M-Audio Delta Multi
M-Audio Delta AP 1/2
M-Audio Delta AP S/PDIF
M-Audio Delta AP Mon. Mixer

And no matter what one I choose I do not get any option like I do if I leave it with the on-board sound card. With the on-board sound card I get to choose line-in, mic, and choose the level. After choosing the M-Audio I do not get any options and can not record.

Peter

I got it to work with Mixcraft, I just need to use the M-Audio control panel to control the input levels.

Another thing:

With my old stock sound card I could listen to the drum tracks in the head phones and not hear the guitar while doing guitar tracks (this is what I want so I cna focus on my timing with the drums). Now with the M-Audio I hear way to much of the guitars in the head phones when trying to record the guitar tracks.

Anyone know what I might be doing wrong if anything?

Peter

You may be trying to record the guitars with too hot of a level. Set the level at about -10 and turn up the drum tracks to the desired loudness.

Ahhhhh...that might work and that is another thing I wanted to ask. At what db do I want the levels in the M-Audio mixer to be at when I am recording guitars, vocals, bass or anything else? Should it always be at -10?

-12 is at the top of the green and just before the yellow. Don't I want a good strong signal to be recorded?

Thank you.

What I do is turn the levels all the way up in the M-Audio mixer and adjust the recording levels with the recording software. Anywhere between -10 to -12 should be fine for recording. Unlike analog you don't need to get the hottest possible level when recording digital.

By the way,How do you people like the M-audio 2496?
I'm getting one for my birthday.
Can I still record with my POD using USB port or do I have to use the S/PDIF
thing?
