Hey everyone, I am new to the forum and I need some help with home recording. I am using the program WavePad because I don't wish to purchase anything for the reason that my band will eventually be going into a studio because my bassist's step dad has one. But in the mean time, to get some music on our myspace, I wanna get recording right away.

Can you please just give me some opinions on how to record? Some things I need help on:
-How should I record parts of the song? Should I record the whole song with just the guitar first? Should I just record each individual guitar part then add them to make a whole?
-When mixing, how can I make it perfect because when adding two things, they never come out in the right time. For example, the singing will be way out of timing from when the guitar starts playing.

Please assist a complete newb!

Use Reaper.

Be sure to download and read the users manual they have on the web site and follow the links to some good video tutorials.

And don't worry, it's shareware just like WavePad. But you'll probably want to pay for this one --- it costs the same as WavePad but does a whole lot more.

And since i'm almost sure you're trying to use your stock soundcard (which is most probably where your timing problems are coming from) you'll need ASIO4all and you'll need to read the directions with this one too so's you can install it the right way the first time.

This recording stuff is much more complicated than you seem to think, but if you're willing to take it one step at a time you'll have something MySpace worthy in a few months.
