Also, the 4040 audio technicia mic

Is the 002 worth it? I will only be recording rap vocals.
From what i've heard, the mic pre amps are great. but hey you hear a bunch of different things. I am going frm an alesis 6usbmixer to that, and i heard firewire is much faster.

It fits my budget, so the money isn't the thing

Anyone have one of these? WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS?

wait a sec....you're only recording rap vocals? Then don't waste your money on the 002.

First of all, people get the 002 because they need the 18 inputs it provides. If you only need one input, why are you going to spend the money on something that provides 18? It's like buying a house that has 5 bedrooms but you live by yourself.

Buy a smaller interface that still has good A/D converters in it and spend the rest of the money on a good preamp.

Now, if you're wanting to use Pro Tools, that's a different story...and in that case you may want to look at the Mbox/Mbox2 or the M-Audio gear that works with Pro Tools M-Powered. And even then you can still get a good preamp to plug into those units.

so what are some good interfaces? was also looking for a control center?

i use cool edit now

but i wanted to learn protools...so idk, damn you made a good point now idk wat to do lol

brooklyn, i only do rap vocals...i was looking at the mbox, mbox 2, 002 and thought they would be good..like buddy said, you only need 1 input, so take the 002 out of the picture..my guy actually rec. me the firewire solo instead of a usb interface like the mbox's...im in the process of tryna figure out what firewire interface i want..

also, i always wanted 2 learn pro tools , and years ago i had an mbox 1 and used it..i think im going to try nuendo next...pro tools is awesome but i wanna mess around with nuendo

once you get the 002

youll never have to upgrade again

so im told

so ima get it

just do your research man. Get it if you really want it, but I think the more experience you get, you'll find it's just a waste of time and money to purchase it. Not because it's a bad unit, but because it's way too much for what you need. You don't need 18 inputs. I'm guessing you like the whole idea of faders...if you want that, you can purchase it separately and cheaper. In fact, you can get a whole interface, nice preamp, and control surface for about the same price as the 002!

The main advantage to Nuendo is for those doing audio/video post-production and those who need to move and share projects between their workstation and an A/V editing suite.

If you're just doing rap audio production, Nuendo is completly unnecessary; if you want to try a Steinberg product for audio, get CubaseSX, which is 100% identical to the audio section in Nuendo, but is about 1/4th the cost.

do some research and know a thing or two before buying anything. sounds like you dont know much, and are buying everything based on hearsay, SOLELY on hearsay.

www.theprojectstudiohandbook.com is a good place to start!

Must Read Books...Also, be sure to peruse the the Audio Engineering Society's Internet Archive. (AES)...there is a fee, but it is well worth it. http://www.aes.org/e-lib/ I have learned a lot from snooping around there..

I have the 002R, and I like it. But I am using it to records whole bands, choral groups, etc. in live concert. If I was just using it to record vocal tracks one at a time, I would never have bought it.

The Pro Tools LE software is the same, no matter which Digi interface you buy. Seems like you are determined to buy whatever your friends recommend, whether the recommendations make any sense for your situation or not. You've posted quite a number of really dubious statements that almost everyone here would disagree with - such as "the mic preamps are great" (they're not, they're adequate), and "you'll never have to upgrade again" (as if that EVER happened in the history of any kind of digital product)

In the end, it doesn't really matter. You're just talking about saving/wasting a few hundred dollars - probably not going to save or ruin your life either way. Sometimes the only way to learn is by making your own mistakes, unless you are smart enough to learn from others' mistakes first.

when u are going frm a alesis 6usb mixer to something like this

of course everything is better

pros cons?
I have the 002 and I like it a lot. I need the 18 ins though. The mic pres arrent that great, good, usable, not great. There is need of a "good" mic pre for vocals if you want to get pro quality results. If you want good results the 002's pre's will do the trick.

If money is not a concern, Then yes "good buy". You may want to expand with live instruments even a live drummer at times. I own 001 sync to ADATs and tape machine. When you buy equiptment like this your ablity to expand is greater. Trust me if you really get into recording it will become an obsession. There is tons of equiptment that will make your recordings even better. Hope you have Deep pockets. :D :D :D

i have the digi 002, i love it, but im using 14ish inputs...

if i was a rapper.. i would get an maudio firewire unit, maybe 2-4 channels. i would spend the extra cash that you are going to save on the unit on a nice tube condensor or regular LDC. if you want to spend more, get a nice 1 channel mic pre, like a great river, avalon, UA etc.

i dont agree with never having to upgrade... i dream to have a digi HD system, and i might seriously consider it one day.
