We've got an old Acoustic 300 power amp in the practice room that we'd like to power some monitors with. The back panel doesn't offer any info in regards to impedance. Does anyone know where I can find specifications on Acoustic amplifiers? Google is taking me all over the place, and I'm already on page 21 of a search.

Thanks to all replies.

Thanks oncor for the info and the link! I was wondering if it was going to be rated @ 4 ohms; my friend keeps trying 8 ohm cabs with it, and I just roll my eyes and block my ears. Looks like there's some more reading to be done! Thanks again.

Why do you say that? 8 ohms is fine, and 4 ohms should be as well, though it will be a little louder. I'd find specs for that particular amp before I'd load it with 2 ohms, though.

I prefer to read what the amp/speakers are capable of before plugging in, turning on, and turning up. My friend however does not and as a result, he plugged in a cabinet the other night that sounded like absolute garbage. I don't really know anything about the speakers he tried, but I don't want to waste practice time with equipment experimentation.

Thanks for your thoughts

Irrespective of that, 8 ohms is the industry standard. It would be an extremely rare bird of a power amplifier that would have a problem with an 8 ohm load. If your friend plugged in an 8 ohm speaker and it sounded bad, impedance was not your problem and finding the specs for the amp won't fix it.

True, it's likely they're just crappy speakers; but I figured finding out the capabilities of the amp wouldn't hurt. :o
