Sorry, but I think you're going to be out of luck with that combination, but...

What is affordable for you? And why must it be tube?

OUt of luck?? It must be Tube because I really prefer the sound as opposed to just a plain mic pre.I would think that if I used a quality Tube preamp straight into the Motu that I would be able to get a pretty nice warm sound at High quality with little noise(hopefully anyway!)Thanks though I would like to hear some feedback on this idea from all of you, affordable would be under $1000 preferably Thanks Randy5235

I really don't think it can be done; though I really can't think of any 8-channel pres (solid or tube) right now other than the True System's Precision 8 distributed by Neumann for at least twice what you want to spend (lists at $2700US) www.neumannusa.com and the DaviSound TB-6 8-channel for $850US www.davisound.com ; both of which are solid state.

Maybe you'll be buying 8 ART MPs or 4 of the 2-channels...

I have to admit seeing 4 of the ART Dual Pre's would be pretty awesome all one on top of the other in a rack... can you imagine all those little LED's going crazy!!

...or if you want to go for an even less expensive route, you can buy 4 Behringer Ultragain Pro's. They sell for $150 each at Musician's Friend. That would be $600, well under a grand. The ART Dual MP Tube Mic Preamp are $300 each at MF... X4 = $1200.

Well, that's a tall order. Here's a couple things to maybe keep in mind.

Tube mic pres, like the kind mentioned above, are actually hybrids--solid state preamps that feed the signal thru a tube to get that slight distortion. And unlike expensive, real tube mic pres, they are not silent and they will add some noise. Maybe not audible on one track, but taken altogether...

Which brings me to another point: if you truly need eight channels going all at once, and you're set on getting these pres, consider going with a variety of models to increase your palette. If you find you're really crazy about a certain preamp, you can always return another for that model. You can also have one moderately good one for important stuff like vocals with a couple "cheapies" on the side.

Finally, keep in mind that as preamps go up in price, they make less noise and are usually less "colored," more transparent, and the fact that they are tube or not becomes less important and more a matter of taste. Have fun--wish I was shopping for some too!

The idea will work out though running straight from a tube pre into the motu with good results, yes?

I would have mentioned the M80, but it is well over $1000 and does not have tubes. It has tube simulators though. If you can afford this unit, I would go with it. It has Class A amps, so you will get great results.
