I have done a bunch of research on this and still not sure what to get for a small studio. Plans are to have a small studio in a bedroom 12X14 doing my own stuff. I have looked at the KRK roket's,5 6 (KRK RP6G3-NA Rokit 6 Generation 3), and 8's, Yamaha hs8, mackie, JBL LSR305, presonus, etc.

Looking to get a good set that will have good range and can handle highs mids and lows and will last me as I am just starting out. Will be mostly rock music. Not looking to spend a fortune but also hate losing money upgrading so under $1000 for a pair. So wanted to see what you all are using and what you would recommend for my situation. I also know the best thing to do is to try them out at the store, but there room will be different from mine so looking for a versatile speaker that will work in a non professional environment.
Thanks for your help

A lot depends on the setup of your room and what is driving your speakers, etc. In general, I recommend 8" - based speakers. Many of the 500/pair come down to personal preference.

If you can, go listen but be aware that speakers in different settings sound different. Very hard but fun decision.

I have 3 sets of speakers in my studio that I use at different steps of the recording process: 40+ year old JBL studio monitors, Event 20/20, and Presonus Eris E8. I've been through many many others that didn't work out in my particular home studio (similar in size to yours). I run the Presonus direct, but the JBLs and Events go through a Yamaha or Onyx stereo amplifier.

Good luck and have fun. Hard to go wrong in the price range you are looking at!
