very much understood.
Now that homerecording.com has showed me how to properly use my guitar and bass EQ .. i.e. by using as little as possible , i found that all the instruments including voice just jump out of the mix at you.
It's funny how i've been playing so long but never really understood how to use my EQ's. So now that my instruments are well isolated in the mix, i find that i have very llittle to do in terms of post mixing .
Since i'm content with my mixes, all i have to do is get the output level just right .. i.e. peaking at about -0.20 DB's . I may apply compression to the drums and vocals and perhaps the acoustic guitar .. but all in all my mixes make me generally more happy and I find that the post mastering steps are greatly reduced.
I may add a small bit of overall reverb on mellow passages .. but i now try to leave the mix as pure as possible.
At least it gives me the comfort in knowing that we won't sound like crap when playing live!
