Live Monitoring problems

Hello folks,

I am trying to record an electric guitar part using a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 and Ableton Live 9 Suite into my PC. I am using Guitar Rig 5 as a plugin in Ableton to get the guitar tones.
There is a direct monitor switch in the Scarlet 2i2 which gives me the unaffected guitar signal into my headphones for monitoring. However i am not being able to record distorted guitar parts as there is a time lag when i switch on the monitor option in Ableton. I have tried lowering the number of samples in input and output but the lag remains. Also, if i reduce the samples below a certain level, there is a cracking sound in the input.
Can anyone please tell me how to remove the time lag while recording in Ableton so that i can hear the tones out of guitar rig 5 while recording...

Thanks in Advance

Hi there,

Which version of Windows are you on? It may be worth checking our Answerbase for an optimization guide for audio to see if this helps.

There are a number of other things I'd want to look into here - are you able to email us directly?

Hi Miles.

Thanks a lot for the link to the Answerbase, and one good thing is that i have solved the problem of live monitoring through my DAW.
:)
Previously the audio driver was set to MME/DirectX. This was giving me a lot of lag issues. Then i changes it to ASIO and now the lag is relatively low and i can monitor my tracks properly.

However i am facing another issue and this time is about panning. I am recording each track in mono and i am listening to them through my headphones, connected to the headphones input in the frot panel of the interface. I am trying to pan some rhythm guitar tracks completely to the left and some to the right. But i am not being able to hear the panning in my headphones. Whenever i pan it completely to the right, the whole track becomes mute and sound comes again when i get the pan knob to the center or left.
However when I rendered the mix and was listening through my phone, every thing was panned properly. Can u tell me why this is happening, and also a way to listen to the panned mix through the Scarlet 212 interface?

Thanks
Shounak
