Hi,

Got all my gear set up, nr the PC now, and everything is going ok, midi in is fine, and i can also get a signal in with the MIC input on the soundcard, however i want to hook up my 4 track thru the line in - putting my guitar etc thru the 4track, and theres no signal coming thru cakewalk..but i know the signal is coming into the pc because i can control the volume on the windows standard mixer.

I have just been double checking by plugging in a cd player thru the line in.....sound plays thru pc, but no signal in cakewalk...

I read somewhere that i should use the line input and not the mic input as this is mainly for pc use.

Also i want to try and fix a dropped out guitar part on a recording done a while back in a recording studio, so my plan is to bring in the track on a CD, and overdub the offending bit ??

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Have you set line in to be your RECORDING source in the Windows mixer?

When you set up a track in Cakewalk are you setting the recording source as the soundcards line input.

Cheers moskus - looked in my windows mixer, and recording was set to MIC....so im getting a signal now, allthough i can't seem to select the PC cd player as a input source, but that's no problem as at the moment i guess i can just pipe my external player in thru the line input.

But i can get my 4track in now which is the main thing !

Track Rat : when you say set up the track, do you mean when you d/click the source part? i think i only get the option to choose left/right & stereo plus all my midi channels...or am i looking in the wrong area ?

I think ill sit down with tutorials and really get my head round this, im proably trying to run before i can walk here :) I think im going to start by trying to overdub this guitar onto the EP though :)

thanks for the advice everyone :)
