i am trying to record(to my fostex 16 tracker) some guitar tracks using line 6's pod pro
now i am not sure if i should use some compression from my external compressor...
cause when i am not using it it sounds like the sound is coming way to loud out of my monitors...
no my question is should i use some and how much ??? please put down the threshold levels + ratio meters if you reply thank you .......

my next question is when i am recording some tracks i try to record some fat rhythm sections so i try to record 4 tracks 2 hard/medium left 2 hard/medium right...
but when i am doing that with the same sounds they don't seem to sound to clear...
i mean you can't really make the difference between the sounds
we play metal/core music so i am using a lot off intro's where one guitar track starts and the other comes in one bar later but when it comes in the other part just fades away (it becomes blurry???) how can i solve this problem ??? if i could get some help with this i would appreciate it

thanks...

What are you recording into? I would avoid using two stages of compression for tracking purposes. Just go with what sounds good and get it as loud as it can go without peaking (depending on format) in the recorder. Then you can choose to use compression in the mix if you need it again.

The compressor on the POD is before the distortion so it is a little different then putting a compressor after the entire POD signal. It is more like putting a compressor between the guitar and the POD. I would just use the POD compression if you like the tone then add some overall compression during mixdown if you need it. The POD is so flat sounding in general I doubt you'll need much during the mixdown.

thanks guys,
any thoughts on my second question perhaps ???

try using different guitars and amps and different EQ settings and use alot less distortion than you think you need........

It's tough to answer the second part without hearing it. It could be the sound, arrangement or performance. Gidge had some good suggestions. Usually when something fancy isn't working I'll try to go back to something more basic. Maybe you are just overdoing it with that many guitar parts.
