Limiter/compressor

Im sorry if this is the wrong category seemed to fit the best, but can someone please tell me the difference between a limiter and a compressor? and where would they both best be used?

You might find this mixing basics page helpful, in particular using compressors once you've got that, a limiter is simply a compressor with a high ratio, and a fast attack and release.
