Lexicon MX200, M-Audio FW410, SPDIF 'External FX' loop in N3/SX3?

Hey all,

I've run into a problem that I can't figure out. I've searched all over the web and found more answers in this forum than anywhere else and I'm close, but I still can't quite get this working the way I want.

I'm running N3 and I just bought the Lexicon MX200. I've got an M-Audio Firewire 410 and the Audiophile 2496 as my soundcards and I'd like to use the MX200 in an 'External FX' loop via SPDIF. The problem is that while I can send signal to the MX200 via the SPDIF out, I can't see any signal back on the SPDIF in. It seems that each (the MX200 and either M-Audio soundcard) wants to be the slave and the SPDIF won't see a valid incoming signal from the MX200. This happens on both soundcards. I have it working at the moment by sending SPDIF out from the FW410 to the MX200 and then returning the signal from the MX200 analog outs to analog ins 1&2 on the FW410. This works fine but I'd rather not leave digital and go back through the A/D if I don't have to. I also assume that the unit will sound MUCH better coming back in digital since we are talking about reverbs and time-delay effects.

Has anyone had any experience with this or something similar? Any ideas that anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and great forum you all have here!

I had a similar situaton w/ SX, but using a Delta 1010 and MX200...

I found it only works with the soundcard SPDIF as master, and MX200 as slave.

Upon re-reading the MX200 manual, I found that it's designed that way.

Did you set up your "External Effects" routing correctly in Cubase? That's pretty important... but not so obvious... ;)

Oh.... there is also a setting on the MX200 for something like "digital routing"... I don't remeber the details off the top of my head...you may want to read your manual, and maybe do a factory reset, as it works fine in "factory default" mode....

Let me know...

Thanks for the quick replies Turnitdown.

I have tried it after resetting the factory defaults on the MX200 and my 'External FX' settings in N3 are correct. As I said, it's working with the analog returns just not with the digital. I'll try a factory reset again. On the FW410 control panel the SPDIF automatically sets itself to internal coax when I plug in the MX200. It won't let me change it. On the Audiophile 2496 control panel I can send signal to the MX200 when the SPDIF is set to 'Internal Xtal' but the SPDIF in never sees a valid, locked signal from the MX200 when I look at the SPDIF tab. It's pretty frustrating! Maybe I'll try my old Yamaha DSP Factory card and see if that works at all. The M-Audio drivers are just so much better...

Hey Turnitdown,

Are you succesfully using the MX200 as a digi SPDIF 'External FX' loop in Cubase through the Delta 1010? I still haven't been able to get it to work as fully digital yet, just SPDIF out and analog back in. If you wouldn't mind, and at your leisure, could you post or email me your settings in the Delta 1010 control panel for the 'Hardware Settings' and 'SPDIF' tabs? I'm pretty sure I've tried everything but then you never know!

Thanks a lot,

Andy,
Can't help you right now, but I will later....
Tomorrow, I'll get screenshots or PM you and give you a call....
It DOES work, so have faith... :D

Sent you a PM.... Probably best to do this over the phone, as my Studio computer is "off the 'net"....

Hi Guys

Im having the same trouble with SX3 / Delta 10/10lt
Can get a signal in with the s/pdif but not returned.

Any chance somebody could send the screen shots of the Delte control pannel.

Thanks

Hey Pad303,

I never did get it working with any of my M-Audio cards (FW410 or Audiophile 2496). The SPDIF on them would not allow it. It fired up first time with my old Yamaha DSP Factory card so I'm pretty sure that that is the problem. I know that TurnItDown did get it working on his Delta 1010 so don't lose hope! I don't know the difference between that and the 1010LT off the top of my head but hopefully it will be able to work. Try PM'ing TurnItDown and see what his setup is.

Good Luck,

I know old thread, but same issue, going digital to the lex is fine, but trying to use the digital out to a M-Audio 1010lt no worky. Thought it was my cables at first, but after trying three of them I came here looking for solutions and it appears the lex can't talk to the m-audio digitally. I tried the latest M-audio drivers and that didn't help, got it a few times to semi work, where everything was scratchy and pitch shifted upwards. Weird. Anyways, the two companies should have had this working by now. And I am even not sure which one to blame??? Oh well I guess its a D/A/D, where it should just be digital!
