I don't know if you were around then or not, but about a year ago we had a "mastering workshop" thread that is very much in the vein of what you're talking about. I think(?) it was pretty beneficial. Unfortunately I don't have free time to do this on a regular basis, but that shouldn't prevent others here from carrying on the tradition. It may be time to give it another go though.

I have no problem giving help where and when I can.

That would be an interesting read.

Of course you don't have time to do that regularly. I don't have time to do tutorials like the time delay/pitch shift stuff either. I just like to see the effort made sometimes.

Ok, you're in charge if you like.

First thing is to find a mix (approved by artist) that everyone wants to have a shot at with a specific set of problems and find various solutions for them. Also we probably need someone to host the files and a naming convention for the mastered files. It started to get real confusing on the other thread once we got past a certain number and with some sending multiple versions.

[edit]

Oh yeah, let's not make this a "competition" but just an exchange of ideas. We all have something to learn even from attempts that don't sound as good (we know what not to do). There's no need for judges, everyone has their own taste and can decide what works for them.

It's spread across several threads, now that I look back some of it is pretty funny. It really shows the interaction of folks here on the forum. Despite our differences of opinion on things, we can actually get something done after about 3,000 posts! :)

A poll on if it should be a competition or not:

Ugh. Democracy is sometimes like a prime cut porterhouse; the results are beautiful, but you don't want to see how it's made. :P

;) :D
