As the group of three year olds was completely incapable of breaking the pinata with a plastic baseball bat, after a while my bandmate took a whack. I figured he needed a handicap, so I picked up a pushbroom to hit him in the butt. As he swung at the pinata, I swung at him, but tragically I missed and 'accidentally' nailed him in the grapes

Oh man, that's practically a re-enactment of the Spotted Owl Benefit Cane Whacking scene from Dumb and Dumber, the greatest movie of all time. They're entering the ball surrounded by upper crust types, and Harry whacks Lloyd in the back of the knees with his cane, crumpling him to the ground.

No dude really I can't play a guitar to save my life... I bought one about a year ago and plucked the strings on it a few times and put it away

Well, there's a lot to be said for doing a solo with a simple, soulful line. Maybe too many of the solos so far have gone the more aggressive route and I guess I was guilty there too. If anybody listens to these in series like I do, it's nice to have a few gentle versions to intersperse with the guitar slinger shootouts.

I think in a day or so I'm going to do another take on it. It's a direction that hasn't been touched on yet. At least to my knowledge. I wasn't able to grab all the entries since I don't *DO* soundclick. But I've got a germ of an idea and if the doc can't get rid of it I'll track it in a day or so. Or when I get 5 minutes, whichever comes first. ;)

Kainz, that was beautiful. Rich tone, articulate rhythms, and perfect intonation in the left hand work. Liked the use of altered repetition in phrasing, and the turn of melody at the end where it ends on the 2nd degree of the scale.

Tim

Thanks! Yours wasn't bad either! :)

It is indeed fun to see all the different approaches. For me, solos mean almost 100% feeling. I don't think so much of the scales and stuff (I have done my "homework" earlier thou heh. The best method is learn and forget. After you know your stuff, do it by intuition :) ).

I tried to keep this one quite simple (harmonically at least). Althou it is a bit hard to turn this more complex one because chords are so "strong" here. All the chords are triads(?) (I don't know the word here. I mean they build up with only 1, 3 and 5, no 7 or 9 etc) and the progression is so clear and often used.

At the end I decided I want to change the chord's feeling from a-minor to a bit more "mellow" so I just added the 9 in there creating an am(add9) sound there. I like the sound of that chord :p

Would be fun to do one solo with more modern jazz swing to it :D

by the way, I like to listen especially yours approach for this song. It is so different (due being classical player I think). It clearly shows your more "theoretic" approach for this one. Nice :)

and btw part 2, I didn't have enough patience to start micing my guitar equipment so the sound is just my custom made guitar directly to micpreamp and then to a plugin ;)

Thanks Kainz.

Do I really sound theoretical? Argh... that's what I'm trying to get away from!

I would say, you sound thoretical wihtout sacrificing the feelings. I mean your melody lines and overall costruction of the solo shows (at least I'm feeling so) your theoretical approach. On the other hand your playing isn't by any means "cold" or theoretical. The playing clearly translates emotion and sensitivity.

I hope this makes any sense :D

Overall I must say I'm not the right person to analyze classical playing. I don't know anything from it. Well technically I can manage to play eg. al Hambra, but when it comes to the point when I should jugde wheter my technic and articulation is decent in terms of classical music.. hehe.. I think real classical musicians would die in laughter when listening me :D

You're very kind, Kainz.

Anywhere I can hear more of your playing?

Tim

Hmh.. I have been playing in couple of albums, but that music isn't really me "playing". It is me playing what the artist wants me to play (I even have usually scripted solos to play and such), and mostly those albums are towards audience in ages 40-60, so nothing to listen in guitarplaying-wise there hehe :D

But it is my job. I don't really complain. I love those studio sessions as well as teaching or pleasuring people at the dancefloor in some "bob&bob dance band" (lol?). I just love to play, no matter where, what or when :)

I'm planning to do (= record just for fun of it) some of my own stuff thou. The music will be mainly gategorized to "smooth jazz" I think. If you have ever heard guys like Chuck Loeb, George Benson, Larry Carlton then you have the rough idea. Of course there is going to be some "Kainz vibe" into it :)

At the moment I'm only having problems finding capable enough drummer and in some songs I can't play piano/keyboards good enough to get the results I want.

In a moment of reflection, just wanted to thank Rokket and mshilarious for having the vision and guts to get the Rumble going with the two backing tracks they put up. It generated a lot of good music and I'm liking what I'm hearing.

Yeah, I second that :)

Guys, this really is a blast. Let's keep this tradition going. Speaking for myself, I can learn so much from all of you, and it really is an honor to be included amongst the talent I'm hearing here.

Speaking of vision and guts, Purge has said, a couple times, what I've thought but was too macho/wussy/reserved to say out loud.

I had 5 minutes...

Ok, I had some time so I put this one together. It's just a variation of the previous submission, ummmm... only different. If anybody wants to know what I did let me know and I'll explain... nothing real difficult though.

And thank you for your entry. I thoruoghly enjoyed everyone's soloing. Makes me wish I was better at it... Oh well...

I'll have to wait to listen to the others. I can't download right now...

Some jazzy, surf rock stuff. Almost a Chris Issacks vibe. Reminds me of some stuff I heard at a wedding in Hawaaii. Pretty cool.

7string, I'd second Dogman's Hawaii reference. Makes me want to take my shoes off and wade out in the white water. I'm too afraid of sharks to go out further.

Good playing, Insightnsound. I like the figures you used in the middle and ending sections, and the slap reverb that's on them.
