Hate to be Leading The Pack in my old crap biting the dust... but...

I have a (DigiTech) DSP256- about 20 years old. I love many things (except the chorus) about the old bugger, but recently had a new problem. I fire it up, and the display has various configurations of either a blank or garbled LCD. Now the sound just follows down the hopper. Hours later, it works again.

Who is the repair guy here?

Easiest thing to check is the voltages in the power supply. If those are OK . . . well, for starters you'd need the schematic . . .

I'll check it out and check back... thanks...

Some stuff has a battery so it can store patches when not powered. When the internal battery goes bad they can act weird like that. At 20yrs old it's a definate possibility

When it works, it continues to work. Would that signify something specific about the problem- other than being an old piece of *&#^ ? :)

I've been letting it run for a few days with no problem- but it might not go again for another week

Thanks...

Intermittent things like that could be cold or cracked solder joint or power supply wiring. If it were a component in the power supply they usually fatigue over time due to heat...I would expect that if that were your problem, leaving it on for several days would have shut it down by now. Opening the case and having a very long inspection might be worth your while.

I'm with everyone else on this...schematics will be a must have.
