learning computer recording??

Hi, thanx first of all for this forum it is very helpfull. However, ive found it very frustrating everytime i have a question i have to go to a forum & posting a ?. Waiting a day or 2 before you can start recording isnt fun. So, i was wondering if there is a good book out there that is non-geek freindly for all of us to use?? the users manuals that come with the rec. software are somewhat vague & seem to leave little details out, not to mention they dont really give you any step by step tutorials on how to do something, like editing a midi track for example. If any of you know of a good book or website that has many easy-to-follow tutorials PLZ let me know, thanx so much for any help.
 
I started off with Home Recording for Musicians for Dummies. It's a good introduction to the subject. It will help you get your feet wet and teach you some of the jargon.

I hope others will stop by with other recommendations. In the meantime, welcome to the board!

Home Recording for Musicians for Dummies is an excellent start (I"ve been recomending it here for some time.)

Tweak's guide (www.tweakheadz.com) is also excellent and free.
 
Another thing you can do is download Audacity(it's free and has a tutorial and a help section) to practice with. It's not the best multi track recorder around but it is free and does most of the functions of expensive software. It's also easy to use so that makes learning the basic functions of digi recording a lot easier. While it may not be quite as complex as other recording software it is a great tool for learning the basics and principles and as I mentioned it's free, so when you move up to better software you can simply delete it, or keep it. I still use it to work out ideas when writing, just because it is so easy to use.
