A friend at work's teenage daughter wants to buy a Martin acoustic, the problem is she's a lefty and can't find the particular guitar she MUST have(it's a peer group brand recognition thing). She's never actually played this particular Martin, but someone she thinks is cool thinks that guitar is cool, so...you get the picture.

He asked my advice on that model of Martin and I told him it didn't matter who made it, NEVER NEVER NEVER buy a higher end guitar that you(or she, in this instance) hasn't played. QC is never perfect.

I suggested he take her to a boatload of music stores until she plays the one that feels and sounds better than any other, regardless of the brand or cost. But again, she's a lefty.

Question:

I need recommendations for shops that have a large inventory of acoustics, in and around Los Angeles, including OC and IE.

oh my goodness. someone actually recommending ed roman, the most disreputable, infamous salesman in the business.

actually the best place to look on the net for lefties is here:

QC in Nazareth is way better than QC of anything that comes out of China, and even better than many other US builders. But Martins vary greatly from guitar to guitar just because of wood selection in a particular batch.

LOL, anyone who takes on Taylor (I own a Taylor) is a good man in my book/:p

She's a chick, get her one of these and call it a day.

Yup. That was on my list. I suggested he take her out there and to GC Hollywood, and everything in between.

Cheaper Guitars

I have several Fender guitars and the ones that seem to play the best are the Squiers. Now, you need to set the action on them but they really sound good and play well. I use my 96 Fender Squier alot on stage and I run it through a Peavey Classic 50/419 and I have had so many compliments about my guitar and the sound. So if you want a less expensive guitar but one that has good quality to it, buy and older Fender Squier. Not the bullet or the affinity. you'll be glad you did, Azz

You're preaching to the choir. I have a Squier that I shielded and put a HB at the bridge, and I love it.

...also TrueTone in Santa Monica, while you're near McCabe's....and maybe Boulevard Music in Culver City...
