I've seen a lot of posts talking about the Rode NT1, NT2, and AT 4033/4050 condensor mics on this BB. Also some posts on the C3000, which everyone seems to agree is a great vocal mic when compared with an SM57. So there's a lot of talk about condensors in the <$500 range. What are your opinions on mics in the $500-$1K range? Does anyone like the Shure KSM32? The KSM32 is I think right on the edge of this range at about $550. How does the KSM32 compare to the rode NT2?

The KSM32 is a nice mic to consider in its price range.

"How does the KSM32 compare to the rode NT2?"

I haven't done any comparisons with these two mics; and I haven't used the KSM32 enough to guess any comparisons.

The large diaphragm condenser mics I'd look into in that price range, other than the KSM32, in alphabetical order, would most likely be:

*AKG C414B/ULS
*AKG C414B/TLII
*Beyerdynamic MC 740
*Beyerdynamic MC 834
*B.L.U.E. The Blueberry
*Elation KM 802 from The Sound Room
*Microtech Gefell M 930
*Microtech Gefell M 940
*Neumann TLM 103
*Oktava MC-012 preamp body with an RTT M1/M3 from The Sound Room
*RTT VM100 from The Sound Room
*Soundelux U97
*Soundelux U195

I picked up a GT AM-52. Great microphone and it's multi pattern. Omni, cardiod & figure 8.

I'm new to this BB, but I've read through a lot of old messages and I've heard a lot of references to mics "from the sound room." What does the sound room do that makes them so unique? I realize it is a guy who is a total mic guru, but what does he do, bless the mics?

"...what does he do, bless the mics?"

Hehe. Something like that. If you'd like to know more about The Sound Room, I can suggest you read some more of the older posts (sorry, the search engine is down), also, go to the website (www.oktava.com) and read EVERYTHING on the site, and if you still want even more with as much detail as you're looking for, call and/or e-mail Taylor Johnson. I promise he'll take care of you. He'll be back in the US in the next few days.

Several mics I use that are in this price range are:

AKG C4000B
Beyerdynamic MCE 90
EV RE-27 N/D

All three mics are great. They are fairly different in sound and application, so they complement each other well in my studio.
