alright, i already have one ksm-109 that i use as an overhead, im lookin to get another to use as in an X/Y overhead setup. Im also going to get a hihat mic, so i was looking at the MXL. Then, i was thinking, maybe i can just use the MXL's as overheads, and the shure as the hihat mic. This would ultimatly save me a decent amount of money. So, to the point, as anyone used the MXL 993 as an overhead and thought it was any good? If you have a recording of it, could you post it?..same with the shure.

I don't know what kind of feedback I can offer since I am pretty new to recording, but I am using a stereo set of MXL993's as overheads and I think they sound pretty damn good. I haven't really tried anything besides them, so I can't really compare differences, but here is a sample I recorded using the MXL993's.

I had to use the roll off switch because the cymbals were origionally too bright. Other than that, the recording has no EQ or effects added to the mix besides reverb on the snare drum.

Say boss...
I've got the udder set...the 109's.
They sound just fine but like ebyte, these are all I've used. Got em on a recommendation from a friend. They're used as my drum OH's and acoustic guitar.
I'm sure there are better ones but these sound good AND fit my budget.
Wish I could help ya more..........
Peace

It just dawned on me that I sent drummerdude666 a clip. It's about 2 1/2 mins long. Just drums. If ya want I could send the same to you. Let me know if it'd h'ep ya.
Peace...........

thatd be pretty cool. Hey eByte, sounds good, what other mics did you use? What overhead setup did you use. (x/y or whatever). Thanks for the clip.
