Murdersgalore, sorry for the brevity of my previous response, I was pushed for time and just wanted to post the 320kb/s version before heading out to do battle on the freeway.

I agree with the recording vs live performance and the chasm that exists between the CD and the stage (Lavigne, Spears et al) but many bands now do such a great live show that you easily forgive them for not emulating their known and loved tracks.

This recording took my less time to do the instruments than it did to record the girl. The second vocal track, the harmonizing, took me a whole evening to try to get her into gear. As soon as she did a take was close to reasonable, I called it. Post-processing made sufficient improvement for my purposes.

I know I can't do an exact replica of the original but I dont see any point in putting in something that isnt there or deliberately changing something that was ok in the origina. I refer to comments about the stop/start in this song. I was just imitating the orig. But if I can get a reasonable facsimile that is different enough to be audibly obvious and still be a reasonable performance, then that is what I aim for.

IU am thoroughly impressed with some of the recordings I have heard from this forum. I think I found a new home :)

Maybe I'm just easy, but I think it's great!!!! Definitely liked the 320k go a little better. After all the effort you clearly put into matching the original, any thoughts as to putting in the guitar solo at ~2:04 or so? Like you say we all hear our primary instruments first and as a guitar player first and foremost, in this song I've always loved that part. The original has a beautiful chimey 12 string solo there, but even if not a 12 string it seems like that break should have something in it. Maybe the break at about a minute in too. As is, though, it's really, really good I think. Thanks for posting it.

Thank you so much for the encouraging comments. You are right, I HAVE left out a solo. I can do that with a 12-string or a chorused 6 but will get onto it one way or another asap. I just forgot about it, lol

One solo... a bit of a rush job but lets see what this sounds like...

Kiss Me (with solo)

Sorry, I overwrote the previous recording...

I know, not twangy or jangly enough but thats gonna take some work...

Not crazy bout the singer, kind of emotionless but I love the guitars

Yeah I am kinda getting that a lot but I don't have access to her pipes any more so I can't change that. Gotta find a new singer

I hate computers. Period. Minutes went by and my post had not registered so I posted again and both posts came up. Did I say I hate computers?

Yeah, the tone on the original is pretty amazing. Nice job with your version... Sounds much better with that "hole" filled.

Thanks jjjtttggg, I will try not to get obsessed over attempting to duplicate the original but if it falls into my lap sometime, I will update it. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I know that my other "good" recordings are going to sound like crap now, lol

I much prefer the general treatment and singing on this than the original... which had an awfully affected bubblegum sound. The original is dull and "un-sexy" as far as I'm concerned.

My complaint here is that if you wanted to cover this song you should have ignored the original more... ;)

Ditto that. I thought it was the original for a while....

I thought the singer did a good job, too.

Thanks Jeff, it was one of her favorite songs. I mentioned it in my first post with this song but not in this one - the girl is only 14 years old and never had any singing lessons. Thats what impressed me about her most. She has done a few recordings with me, some fair, some not, this was the best one I think.

Do you guys mind if I post this track of the 14yo singer in the first song I ever recorded her? It was one she wanted to do.

Its a karaoke backing but I was more interested in what I could do with her voice. I am pretty sure you will get some goosebumps...

Love Is A Battlefield
