Kinda a shame- but the members of KOL have shown, over and over again, that they are just not ready for the success they have achieved. Several of those signs are mentioned in the article you linked, and of course there is the infamous slaming-the-vintage-Gibson-to-the-ground-because-I'm-angry-with-the-sound-guy incident. There just does not seem to be enough maturity in that group to handle the changes rock n' roll success/excess can bring.

Maybe in a few years...

Well, "suckiness" is a subjective thing, which is why I chose to not comment it. (Personally, I like the few things from KOL I have heard, but that's just my opinion.) I just think it's rather a shame that someone close to the band- hell, someone close to the family- didn't provide some counsel so they might have avoided the self-destruction. Even if they do suck, currently, with some help they may have matured into good musicians. Now, we may never know.

I think it's funny. I don't give a crap about whiney babies 'cause 'they weren't ready for fame'. Screw 'em. There's PLENTY of other talent just dying to have a chance. Get out of the way ..... go get your McDonalds job and clear the way for someone who isn't a douche.

Just like I don't care when some celeb overdoses ..... fuck 'em. No reason why people don't have to be responsible for their own lives just because they've found some celebrity. In fact ...... that's the problem ...... celebs don't think they have to be responsible .... someone else will do it for them.

There's talented players in every dinky town in this country.
There's no shortage of people who have gotten good without any help. It's like Justin Beiber ...... now that he's a star he can have high powered coaches make him seem to have talent.
It doesn't mean he does.

I don't give the slightest crap about bands like KOL. They actually do seem like nice kids in interviews I've read.
But talented young bands are a dime a dozen.
Better have the full package ...... be talented and NOT be whiney assholes or it'll come back and bite you .......... and I'll be amused.

95% of artists do their best work in their first two albums. Please don't bring up exceptions, those are the 5% people--they are the more famous ones because they don't suck. KOL has already done what, five? They are done. And their two or three radio hits are horrible tunes I hope I never have to hear again! :p

I posted this just for people to see the quick down fall young artist can have.

Yeah, I get it. And, I only replied because I really do think it's a shame- Bob is right, plenty more where they came from, but it makes for a tragic story, anyway. And every time.

sorta like that picture you posted to show the quick fall down a soundman can have?

Really?? I'd like to see that pic.

.
how is it tragic? Did anyone die? Has some old lady lost all her possessions? Tragic doesn't even remotely apply.

Aw, come on, Bob, why so harsh? Sure, it's not tragic like someone dying, but it is at least sad and disappointing when someone with talent, who also appears to be a nice guy, explodes just after leaving the pad, or burns up on re-entry. Makes me wonder, just a little, what they might have accomplished had they gotten and taken good counsel.

A possible example of what can happen- Steve Forbert seemed to be a one-hit wonder- I loved "Romeo's Song," but he never followed it up with another major hit. But, the man still tours, and gets intimate with the audience, doing things like honoring requests that came in via email or his website from audience members the same day of the show. I saw him at the Strand in Marietta, GA, last year, and one person (okay, it was me) asked him if he still played "Romeo's Song." His reply- "Of course!" You gotta love him.

Now, it may be easy to dismiss Forbert as a OHW, and to most folks, he is at best a foot note- but he's matured into a wonderful performer who does need flash, "celebrity," or a substantial entourage. I'd like it if KOL could get there, but from a current perspective, it probably won't happen. Pity.

And although you are right about there being plenty more where they came from, is it the fault of acts like KOL that the Star-maker Machinery is a voracious beast, to whom nice kids like LOL are just grist for the mill?

And now, to lighten the mood, here's a little Joni... (great band backing her up)

Aw, come on, Bob, why so harsh?
meh ..... I don't think I'm being harsh.

I just don't find it tragic or regretful or even sad.
I find it absolutely and totally unimportant in everyway.

First off ..... with out the Star-maker machinery they would have been nothing. They only existed as somewhat celebs because of the star making machinery.
Secondly .... like 90% of the "stars" today, they're manufactured. I actually don't know if they have much talent at all. Look at Taylor Swift for instance.
She SUCKS!! She can't sing for shit. You can go find tons of video examples of the fact she sucks out loud.
And if you say something about it .... her legion of fans simply says ... "she can't sing live ..... but her records ..."

Of course, her records sound in tune because of studio trickery and well done auto-tune. But she's pretty so someone made her a star.
And she's not the only one.

People mostly don't get to be stars now because of how good they are (Justin Beiber) ...... they get to be stars because of how they look. The music is an afterthought.

Read interviews with any of the long time musicians in the big time. To a man they all say that it's accountants who run the music biz today. They find someone who has the look they want and then make the music work even if they suck.

Now don't misunderstand me ...... I don't begrudge anyone a good life and for those who are lucky enough to have the Star maker machinery come their way and find success ..... good for them.

But if they're stupid enough to throw it all away because they're just sure that they each individually have godlike music powers and will be stars forever, and they toss it away ....... I think it's awesome and funny as hell and I love it.
The world hasn't lost anything at all ..... they probably wouldn't have done much anymore anyway since, as Mshilarious pointed out ...... the vast majority shoot their wad the first couple albums and that's it.

I love it ....... I loved it when that talentless Britney Spears imploded and screwed up her carreer; I'm loving seeing that equally talentless Miley Cyrus do the same thing ...... I can't wait for that douche Beiber to implode ...... and KOL is just another bunch of kids getting too full of themselves.

Do they have talent? I actually don't know, not having seen them live ....... but regardless ......... there's a million good musicians out there that have devoted their lives to music (like me and many of my friends) for no reason other than their love of it because they knew good and well they'd never 'make it' not having the look ya' know.

When I see some 24 year old talking about how they've 'paid their dues' or how 'they've been working hard their whole lives and always knew they'd make it' ..... I want someone to slap the shit out of them.

And if they are talented and are so incredibly lucky as to have their talent rewarded; and they're dumb enough to throw it away ..... I freakin' love it.

I actually find the idea of calling that tragic a little offensive when there's real tragedy in the world.

Wow, Bob. Quite a compelling argument. You may have actually changed my mind. Seriously.

I've seen singers perform with Bronchitis, and still sound amazing. If you're not truly dedicated to your craft, you have no business being part of that craft.
