Keyboards + Guitar Pedals

Do I need a DI box to plug in a keyboard to guitar pedals? I'm worried about burning out the inputs and not getting a good tone from possible impedance mismatching.

I don't think so...
I've been wondering about what kinds of those effects would be cool to hook a board up to.
But the output of a keyboard is line level, so it's not going to burn anything out.
 
I once saw a guy running his keyboard through a whole bunch of pedals. The coolest effect was the wah-wah, it really sounded crazy cool. Distortion pedals also can give an industrial sound.
 
I've been using guitar pedal effects on my keyboards for years with no ill effects (unless you want to get ebonic about it). :p

You can't really play LA Woman in a Doors tribute band without hooking up a Wah Wah to a Rhodes.

cool. I thought you needed a DI in reverse or something like. I heard something about change of frequencies if you have the wrong impedances. Maybe that's just for Guitar into Lo-Z.

Well, I will go so far as to say that you only get away with effect pedals on keyboards live.

That's because guitar effects are so noisey.

Wish me luck - just ordered a J-Station from Musician's Crutch to use with the QS-8. $99 - couldn't pass it up.

If It doesn't work out, I've got an Epi 335, a Rhodes 73, a Clav D6, and a Hammond (but I'll need an adaptor) I can use it with. So really a no-brainer, but I'm hoping the QS-8 and my other synths will benefit from some DSP/ amp modeling.

Theoretically, high impedance to high impedance shouldn't be a problem, but there's that whole level thing, especailly an issue for the Rhodes. Might need to invoke my AudioBuddy to bring the level up. We'll see.

The electro harmonix Bass Balls sound so cool on pads and string and even some piano sounds.

I am going from my Kurzweil K2600 to Daddy-O or BigMuff directly into my Aardvark Q10 with no issues. Do have to be careful on how you set the levels and stuff though because these things are noisy! Turning up Sustain on the BigMuff gets really noisy. But I use it mainly as a drum "crapolizer", and some noise actually adds to the character.
 
Take a piano and put some fuzz on it.
Take a trumpet and put ALOT of fuzz on it
Vibes = delay box
pads = flange

Tons of experimenting to do.
Pianos with fuzz on then sound great in a club song.

For live sound, I used to run my keyboard through a wah wah pedal using an organ sound. It was a killer effect. However, putting wah wah on an acoustic piano patch was just....weird
