Hello there. I recently purchased a Yamaha Portatone PSR-172 keyboard, And connected it to my soundcard via midi connection. I programmed it to replicate a drum kit and started to lay down a track on Cubase se software, When to my chagrin, It played back a piano sound. Please help, I just want to get to work.

Are you recording on Track 10? Track 10 is the drum track for the General MIDI (GM) standards. Record the drums on Track 10, and then you can select a certain kit (room, electronic, dance, jazz, etc.)

Also, when recording midi, make sure you have your keyboard set to Local Off (or your yamaha might have a 'PC' button which is the same as local on/off).

That did the trick!

That worked like a charm friend! Thank you very, Very much!!!

Good luck and stick with it!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a learning curve with all software tht can not be avoided. Midi will open a new creative world for you. Espicially sound sampes you don't have available on your keyboard. There is no way I can really filll you in with what I know. I think it has opened alot of doors of creativity for some people.

Good luck and hang in there, Keep the faith. Ozlee :)
