I feel like such a newbie for even asking this, but I need a second opinion on the best option.

What should I do about recording a keyboard. I mean I can use the instrument ins on my preamps in master control (a 11' x 14' ~~~ room at best) that is cramed with desks and a dresser. There would be a 4'x5' area for the keys to be set up in. Or do I get longer instrument cables and force them to the next room. Or do I buy Radial's PRO D2 two channel passive DI and send the keyboardist to the down stairs tracking room/s. Or do I have to learn midi and use a midi connection??

You got a lot of options there bud. I normally just plug on into a DI box or a pre with a line level insert. I normally track right in the control room. I mean whats the point of going to the tracking room if you're not moving any air?

However the situation changes once you decide to try a keyboard amp and a microphone. :D

Differant strokes for differant folks.

Keyboard amp shouldn't be in the picture but I didn't ask if she was bringing one. Alright I will figure out how to get a set of keys and keyboard player in my control room/office I swear if she demands that I mic her amp....lol. Anyways this is a few weeks off, so I have time to ask the right questions. I was just looking for an excuse to buy a di box, ahahah. But then if I did put it downstairs I would atleast know she wasn't staring at my butt crack, when I am bending over to adjust the pre-amp settings. Really this could save her eye sight, so now its becoming a health issue, dang I better get the di box. Ok so when my wife asks you if I really needed that DI box I just bought, you answer "YES, for the health and safety of everyone involved, he NEEDED the DI."
