Hi Folks,
The above link takes you to a work in progress: it still needs a solo & drums.
It's a progression I've had for many years. I didn't get anywhere with it as I couldn't work out a bass line for it - still can't really.
The TR505 patterns gallop along a bit electro popishly - I wanted the tempo rather tha the rhythm.
Any ideas?
Lyrics:
KENNEDY AVALON
Jack locked Jackie in Camelot
Chaste, and always on view
While ploughing a furrow of privilege
With only the moneyed and few
CHORUS
Fame is dirty, sullies the night
Some croon stitched into a dress
Tongue-kissing power ends up dead on a bed
In another “need to know” mess

Pigs couldn’t fly when they stood eye to eye
On the shoreline, losing their chance
In its shadow today, Guantanamo Bay
Feeds the spawn of irrational stance

Daddy’s little soldier – shorts, jacket, saluting
As the caisson went rolling along
Backwards boots pointing, after the shooting
While stars through tears sing their songs
CHORUS
Everyone tells you they knew where they were
An ill wind they all thought was change
For the strings of a puppet can be cut at the whim
Of the true masters of the grange.
INSTRUMENTAL
CHORUS
What can you do for your country?
Applaud, take the bait
Smile, style, from substance resile
The pumped-up always deflate

Yes, Jack locked Jackie in Camelot
Chaste, and always on view
While ploughing a furrow of privilege
With only the moneyed and few
CHORUS
In another need to, ‘nother need to know, ‘nother need to know mess.

Hi Ray,

Nice period piece. I dig all the references to the Kennedy empire (Ms. Monroe, Bay of Bigs, the assignation, cover-ups, etc.) Very cool. The song mirrors the kind of paranoia surrounding that whole period, especially with the quality of your voice.

I like the mix alot. I think the background vocals could come down a bit, and the main guitar part up a bit. The bass and drums sound on, though the drums sound a little distant compared to the rest of the mix.

All in all, a really interesting listen-different.

So far, sounding good Ray. Interesting song and sounds...pretty cool.

Sounds good so far, Ray. Vocals can come up. If you want some drums to this, I can hear a funkier, more driving beat happening to this. I can pobably lay something down in the next week or so, if you'd like. I'm digging the jangly guitars and the overall mood here.

I like the Tune

Great mood and vibe to the tune.

I really dig the Disco beat:cool:, and that synth sound you got going there is simply spectacular.

I think the vox could come up a little in the verse, pluss I would loose some prescensce on the the guitars on the chorus, as it seems a bit busy.
I would prefer the vox to shine clearer in the chorus.

thats my 2centavos:)

Again congrats on the lyrics, you write like a pro.
Damn fine lyrics:)

Great lyrics, as per usual. I like the beat, too. The overall progression and dark mood remind me of early Danny Elfman stuff, especially the fuzz guitar lines and keyboards.

The vocals seem to be a little bit quiet here, a little loud there - something to check out when you have time.

Cool stuff, and a totally different sound (at least to me).

Cool tune Ray... I realy like the sonics/dynamics that you've arranged here. It grooves through the verse then really builds on the chorus. Vocals are up and down as mentioned - the rest seems good to me.... Another uniquely original tune....

ksounds,
Thanks mate. The paranoid voice of Terry B. I like that! The drums should be sorted now RAMI has offered to play on this. I'll be looking at the guitar & vox.
Dogman,
Thanks mate - glad you chimed in.
RAMI,
I've sent you an email with the most recent mix with L/R drums/Music. I'd love ypou to drop what ever you think works onto it THANKS!!!!!
Nakatira,
Ta cobber! The synths & distorted guitar are courtesy of Faderbug. I'll work on the chorus. I've already dipped the fuzz bass a little & there's a lot of competition going on so I'll do as you suggest with the guitars. So far I've only done general levels on the vox. Terry wanted them stacked in the centre so I'll now proceed to even them out with some fader automation.
Supercreep,
Thanks mate! Yeah, vocal elevelling to be done certainly. The beat is A6 on the TR505! Thanks for the comparison! Keys & distorted guitars by faderbug as mentioned. Does the fuzz bass in the chorus work for your ears? I spent years trying to get a bass line for that thing & then, when I worked one out I couldn't get it to sit. Last ditch idea to fuzz it up so I'm worried about it.
ido1957,
Thanks Gerry. The dynamics must be a result of using better, though still dirt cheap, monitors. Glad you like the track. Any more ideas to throw at it?
Thanks folks - I'll get to work on it.
Have a nice weekend!

A second thumbs up on the clean jangly guitars...sound cool on my phones right now...love the lyrical refrences to the Kennedy saga...I also would like to hear the vocals a bit more prominetly in the mix as the lyrics are so killer. I alos think having Rami do drums will add a great kick to the song overall....look forward to hearing it!

Nice song, Ray!
Just try to get the voice out front some more. I would put some kind of 60's psychadelic effect on the voice, here and there....

Cheers
Joe
