Just been speaking to someone at a local music shop and they dont sell any of the TRS -> dual TS cables. But he said that i could use a balance XLR to TRS cable (XLR plugs into the preamp output and the TRS plugs into the front input with the 'line' button engaged) he said this will bypass the fast track pro's preamps.

This sounds correct aye?

He is correct about the hookup to the front jack with line in engaged - that is what I was talking about above in post #5. But I doubt it will bypass the preamp. However, you can turn up the trim on the interface and find out - if the volume increases, you are not bypassing its preamp.

You should really direct your question to your manufacturer tech support rather than trust someone at a music shop or on this forum. Some line ins bypass preamps, some don't (especially the ones in combo jacks right beside the trim control). I don't have that device so I don't know without emailing the manufacturer.

Hi there,

So i got a cable (XLR into the preamp output and the TRS end into the front input of the F.Track pro with gain turned all the way down and the line button engaged)

When i first tried it last night it was excellent and i managed to get a few good recordings. However when i tried again this morning it went horrible!

Say i open a new audio track (in Logic) i pulled the fader down to approx half way. But as soon as i turned the input monitoring on i immediately could hear this constant whooshing 'whitenoise' sound out of the speakers (and headphones). The higher i pushed the fader the louder the whitenoise got and visa verca. So when i had the channel fader almost at the bottom to try and avoid the whitenoise in my recordings (which i realise now probably doesnt really fix the problem) it meant that i could barely hear my voice in the recordings.

Also i found that at nearly every setting with the preamps gain and output, my voice was distorting (going into the red). Even when i had the gain right down at -20 and the output almost at its lowest, there was such a fine line between my voice distorting and not being able to hear my voice at all

Can anyone shed some light?
