just acoustic and vocals

The guitar sounds ok. There nothing wrong with it from where Im at.. When the back ground vocals came in I started cracking up.... sorry! I personally dont like the falseto vocals. But thats just my opinion. Acoustic guitar is always nice. Its hard to hide anything with one guitar and a vocal.

Hey Fprod,
...this is different from you. The acoustic sounds nice. I didnt mind the falsetto that much. It's pitch slips a little, but having heard alot of your previous stuff, I know you like to reach... ...Im guessing a little pitchiness kind of fit the vibe you had in mind. Badgas put up a tune called woolton church a while back that kind of had the same apparent intent. The vocs werent perfect, but they were "heavy", and full of the essence of what the feeling of the song was all about. ...Love that
Nice one here man.g

Awwwwwwwwwww, I'm touched by this Phil.

*wipes tear from his eye*

Thanks for sharing. Just lovely...

fprod-
I enjoyed the song. It reeked with emotion. I like that. I am no singer and probably could not sing my way out of a paper bag, but the pitchy vocals made it a little distracting for me.

Lyrics were nice. Thanks for sharing.

Nice pretty song. I liked guitar part.

Like skids, I thought the vocals need a few extra takes to capture a better performance.

The vocals also had just a small bit of muffledness to them. Very minor.

A second guitar part, higher in pitch, might be a nice addition to the song. Just a thought.

Trip.

Nice guitar sound on this. Very simple and plain. I think I'd like to hear the vox (all of them) up front a little closer to where the guitar's at. And I'd like to have the background vox quieter and the lead vox more distinctly "in front".

Very haunting song. Cool stuff, Phil.

fprod,

A true song from the heart.

It's tough to find fault with a song that is so honest and pure in its style and delivery.

Sure, some tweaks could be done to balance out the main and backing vocals but, I would probably leave it alone as it sounds smooth and natural, like listening to a jam in someone's living room on a cool Autumn evening and living in the moment.

This song captures a human warmth as it is and that's no small accomplishment.

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers! :)

tjohnson,
Glad I could make you laugh - even though it wasn't on purpose. I see where you're coming from though. Thanks for listening.

G,
I'll look for the badgass tune. I'm not gonna say I didn't try my best to sing in tune (and it took me quite a few passes just to get it where it is), but I figured the nature of the song would be forgiving of a "vulnerable" voice given that I couldn't hit all the notes. And yeah, I always reach. I'd rather have a flawed recording than work on something easy.

Tjarko - :o Thanks!

skids,
I'm no singer either - but I have lots of fun trying. Thanks for the compliments.

TripleM,
It took me a lot of trys just to get the pitch as good as it is. More takes at this point just means being in tune on different words.;) (I suppose there's always cut and paste). I agree about the second guitar. In fact I already tried it before posting this. But by the time I was tracking it I really got burned out with the tune and just had to put it down. The "muffledness" in the voices might be because I have a cold which was pretty bad when I tracked this yesterday. I'm hoping it's not in the signal chain 'cause my cold is getting better. I'm stuck with my gear.;) Thanks.

groucho,
Good call on bringing the lead vocal further in front of the harmony. I was wondering if I had done that enough and I think you're right. I know the melody, the listener doesn't. Thanks.

Ghost,
Wow - thanks! "From the Heart" is not my usual style so I'm glad this one worked for you.

I like these simple honest songs where the person shines through the music. Nothing artificial, just pure sound. Nice one.
Thanks

good song.. enjoyable like an old Neil Young song.. I liked the falsetto.. maybe the vocal performance could be a little tighter, but so can Neil Young's.. good stuffs!

Whew,

Listened to this one several times. Last time some one made me this sad I had to whip his @$$.

You got one coming

That was deep man...Not track one material....but very...eh hem...beautiful.

On a lighter note...I could hear the rust on you A-string

I like this a lot. Vocs cool. Guitar cool. Good words. What more do you need? It may not be single material, but would make a nice B side.

Very cool.Hypnotic,kinda.Very much open to other instruments, too,if you were so inclined.

Nice

I`m a big fan of acoustic and vocal. This was good man, just to say I listened and enjoyed.

Very nice Fprod.......I really like the acoustic sound........

I dig your voice too.....solid vocal

Still listening to "belief" by the way.........I love it.......

I posted a new mix for anyone who's interested. I added a couple guitar parts with the same rusty strings. I boosted the lead vocal just a touch. I let my dog Rascal have a shot on vocals too for no other reason than he's a great dog. Didn't try to re do the vocals because I don't think I can sing any better in tune in this range. andreg - thanks, and welcome to the board. I'll be watching for your tunes.

BSabbath - Neil is the man who taught me how to sing :D

Dusty - I warned you, didn't I? ;) "most miserable song I've ever done". And that's a delicate blend of rust and dried blood you're hearing on that A string.

rats - thanks for listening. I'm still waiting on that Elbow Room show. (please make it a weekend)

beelz - laid some more instruments down. Even tried a fisher price bell set, but it was more out of tune than my vocals so I scratched it.

erland - thanks for checking it out and stopping in

powderfinger - glad you liked it. Thanks. I've got the final version of belief posted if you're interested. Not too much different than the previous one, but it's done!

I think I'm done messing with this one. I know there's lots to do to improve it, but this is probably the last this thing will be heard. Still pick it apart if you feel like it...or just let the thread die.

Thanks!

Hey man. Sorry I'm late. Been a bit obsessive as of late. I'm better now.

Phil, this is beautiful. I'm glad you did this one. And I hope it made you feel better. I'm going to share this one with Sonia. She threw her back out yesterday so she's pretty much stuck on the bed as the pain appears to be rather unbearable. But she's laughing a lot. All we can ask for, eh? She will absolutely adore this song. I laughed when I read the comment about it being hard to hide things when it's just acoustic and vocal. Why did they assume you'd want to hide something? Quite the opposite, it seems to me.
