Hi Everyone,
Got a new original that is semi-finished with the mix. I just need to finish up the start and end (fade, etc.) so the bulk is done. I wanted to see if you guys could give some comments, suggestions, etc. on what you think of it so far. The Mix and the Tune. Let me know. Thanks.

Thanks,
Lank

How do you approach sensitively ..?.. I think it's the singing.

I couldn't listen to more then about 30 seconds. The singing got me.

The Vox

What specifically got you about the vox? Thanks.

It's not that bad. The vocals are pitchy at times and a little too loud, vocals should probably be re-recorded if possible. The drums are off at times too. The high hat on the drums is dominating too. The guitars are decent, and I think the song is actually quite lovely in general as a song.

thanks

Auburn,
Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking I'd have to have her re-record the vocals as the meters never clipped but it sounds a little distorted during the choruses and louder. I'll get a different take over the weekend and see if we can clean up some of the pitch + loudness issues. I'll also work on the levels of the hi-hat. I recorded drums with x-y OHs, snare, and bass so I'll see what's picking it up the best and move from there. Thanks.

Funny thing, for a few seconds this morning I was singing this song. I thought, 'wtf?' then I couldn't recall the lyrics/tune.
So, it must be somehwat subliminally catchy.

I've got a female singer I work with who sounds wrong in the same way as this one. If you find something that works for her, let me know what you did. And it is a catchy damn song, so that's awesome.

The mix is a little strange. Or maybe its the song. I dont know, really.

First things first, turn the guitars down. They really dominate the mix.

About the vocals. I think she can sing, I don't think her performance was captured very well. What is the vocal chain? Mic, preamp, etc. Vocals are king and everything else should support the lead vocals. Try starting your mix out with just kick, bass and vocals. Listen to it once or twice, just those three. Then softly add the other elements.

yeah, it's a catchy tune alright.
