I don't have a copy of the specs to hand, but I was wondering whether the VC3Q has balanced or unbalanced outputs - I know it has 2 1/4" jack outputs one for the desk & one for monitoring - but I'm not sure what the difference is.
Do I need a balanced lead for the output to desk? - I usually grab whatever guitar cable is nearest to hand, but I'm told that I could be frying them IF the VC3Q requires a balanced connection.
Cheers.

I checked & it does have balanced outputs - am I then compromising the signal by using guitar cables?

There is a very slight loss of gain, but if the cable runs are fairly short, it's no big deal. It won't hurt the pre, the cable, or the console. However, that said, most instrument cables, even good ones, aren't very well shielded, and they tend to be susceptible to interference from radio, flourescent lights, dimmers, TV's, and a host of other sources. The same can be said of many cheap balanced patch cables.- Richie
