Jimmy Page's low-slung guitar position.

The height of the guitar is directly proprtional to the suck of the music. high guitar = suck. Music that rocks is played by guys with low-slung guitars.

I wear mine so low I just lay it on a table.
 
I've never been able to play a low-slung guitar. Being a small guy with short arms and small hands, I have to have it at that position where the watch pocket rivet on my Levis jeans hits the back of the guitar pretty much dead center.

I'd probably be even more comfortable having it hiked way up but I refuse to look that dorky. :D

The audience sure doesn't unless you're talking some horrendous thing, 'cause they don't have a clue.
Everyone misses notes ...... there's no such thing as perfection ...... getting upset about it is silly.
The very best players miss notes and they just laugh, if anything, because they're comfortable enough with their skills to not worry about the inevitable clam.

When I was learning bass, in jams, if I made a mistake, I'd repeat it so it looked like I meant to do it !:D

I've read for many years about Page's 'sloppy' playing and his sloppy solos. I've been listening to Zep for 30 years {and Page for virtually all my life if you include his extensive session work in the 60s} and I can't find any sloppy playing. I think he was a magnificent player, writer and a fair producer. Anyway, what do I know ?!;)
 
Check the tune where he played the guitar synthesizer, there are a lot of muffed notes and slop in that one.

Are you high? "Heartbreaker" has a few notable flubs; every other note on their live album was a flub :p
 
The first two albums were slop city but that didn't stop me from thinking it was the best music I'd ever heard.

For whatever reason, I have always liked the sound of loose bands, like War, over clinically correct bands like Toto.

Jimmy Page sounds sloppy in one sense, but the "big picture" of his playing is incredibly deliberate. That beats the crap out of some guy who plays "perfect" but doesn't have the "deliberate" thing going on. Lots of greats play like that. Paul McCartney often sounds, to me, like he's not going to make the note when he sings rock 'n roll, but that "pain" is what makes me want to listen.

I love when the host grabs the drummer's cymbal at 1:57

I guess he didn't start out "low slung".

I loves me some JP playing but polished is not a word I'd use to describe it.
 
I have to play on the third floor. The guitar is in the basement.
 
I tied a bungee cord around the whammy and the other end to my whammy, I threw it overboard into the Marianas Trench, then I climbed Mt. Everest. When I got to the top, Chuck Norris was there, so I made him dive down and strum an E chord for me :cool:

Bottom of the Marianas to the top of Everest? Not bad...not bad.

Doesn't compare to playing from the moon, though. Have I told you about that?

I don't think he is sloppy because of technique...it's more like because he's focused on things beyond the individual notes...and even when he flubs the notes...you still "get" what it was he was playing (or trying to).

Heck...Hendrix was pretty sloppy at times too...and also was focused way beyond the "riffs".


Another player who does that is Neil Young. He's all about tone and intent...the individual notes don't seem that important at times.

I love all three of these guys and wouldn't want to hear it any differently and always preferred the players who go for tone and for "big picture" playing instead of proficiency and meticulous technique, which can be awesome to witness, but often comes off rather cold and clinical...IMO.
 
Id say some of the sloppyness could also be the fact that he was stoned most of the time...give me a gazillion dollars and Im gonna be stoned constantly too.

Don't kid yourself. Those guys played sloppy because they ingested massive amounts of drugs and alcohol.
