You may check out Robin Ford, he used to back up Miles Davis. The music he's doing these days is really more blues than jazz, but it's a very jazzy kind of blues.

That's Robben Ford. While I wouldn't call him a jazz player (and he wouldn't call himself a jazzer either), 64Firebird's assessment is right. Ford slips in and out of pentatonic blues playing with some really nice angular jazz lines, used sparingly but with supreme taste...

Hi,
I'll second all the the guitarists mentioned, and add Frank Gambale, Scott Henderson, Mike Stern, Leni Stern, Shawn Lane, Lenny Breau, Frank Zappa (not strictly "Jazz," but worth listening to.), Howard Roberts, Mick Goodrick, Kevin Eubanks, and Joe Messina (one of Motown's "Funk Brothers") who also happens to be quite the jazz guitarist.

Have fun listening and learning!

Take care,
Tony

P.S. George Benson's "Cookbook" album from the 60's, is a great G.B. "guitar" album.
Ronnie Cuber's Baritone sax playing alone, is worth the cost of the cd.
Also, Pat Martino's "Consciousness" Cd is a must-have! (His version of John Coltrane's "Impressions," STILL floors me to this day!)
