Hi all,

I bought 49 keys M audio and XV-5050 running with sonar3.. This is first time i add some hardware.. So i know nothing about those stuf... Such a midi transmit channesssl or knobs, sliders, bank channel setting, PERROM, PATCH, midi message, sys exs(this no idea!)

The XV-5050 has gerat sounds that if i could use.. My question is why they don't make it simple? I don't understand PATCH and PERFORM.....!!!! I just wanna get sound!!

Everytime i turn on the thinks always have something wrong.. I figured out RX channel should be same p1 p2 p3 so on.. So once i turned on XV-5050 i goto edit--> and set the all channels again.. Why i have to do that everytime i turned on???

Offfff, i really don't know where to start.. It's useless reading manuals.. It's not easy to understand.. I have downloaded instrument definition from third party site for sonar.. After that i get easier to reach to the sounds i wanna play.. There is tones of question to be answered..

What just happened: I was palying my one of song, everythink was ok! Then during playback i push to the "patch" on the XV-50 and everythink gone.. Now i have efect which is abnormal on channel 3......!!! I can not undo it :)

I can say there is no problem with GM mode.. But patch....!!!, forget it i don't even know how to ask question :))) Don't know anythink even for question :))

M Audio connected with USB to the PC, from M audio; in on XV-5050

Please you just tell me the very first step to underdtand getting sound without trouble!!!!! All other command later on!!!!.. I don't need bank change, knobs, volume..... etc.. I just wanna use sounds

Thank you very much!!!!

In performance mode you can select up to (16) patches and assign the midi channels 1-16 accordingly. Before you exit the performance after making your edits you must save the performance in order to retain your settings.
You'll get the hang of it. Believe me, if I can do it anyone can do it. :D

Is that connection correct?

From PC USB---->to the Keyboard----> Normal Midi Cable in to the XV-5050

chill man, I've got an XV5050, and although it can be intimidating at first, it's really a nice little thing once you get to know it...

Firstly, if you're using it so you can have multiple sounds for recording/playback using a sequencer (which, let's face it, is what we really buy synths for), then you should be using it in PERFORMANCE mode. A PERFORMANCE is basically a collection of sounds you set up for using with a sequencer (ie. Ch1 - strings, Ch2 - bass, Ch3 - choir etc. etc). Don't use it in PATCH mode - that's just for live performance of 1 sound only.

So once you've got it in PERFORMANCE mode, it's simply a matter of assigning a different sound to each PART. Don't forget that the sound must be receiving MIDI on the correct channel (you know this already). Also, don't forget that it must be set to recieve MIDI data in the first place (MIDI RX ON)!!

Once you're happy, make sure you SAVE what you changed - not forgetting that you have to take off the write-protect option first!

Not having my Roland in front of me I can't give you exact instructions, but that should be enough to get you started.

If all else fails, read the manual.

The XV5050 is a really good piece. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

If the XV is gonna be your only module for a while an Echo Mia ($200) will prolly do for u. 2 analog i/o, s/pdif i/o, and 1 midi i/o. Even if u get another piece or want to use the analog ins for a mics or something, u can run the XV through the s/pdif ins. plus you can use the midi i/o since u dont want to use the usb connection. Just be aware that u can only use the xv editor thru usb. My brother uses Echo Mia without much problem. I just dont like that it dosent have a breakout box, you'd have your audio and midi cables coming right out of the back of the pc.

Im more of a fan of M-Audio myself. The delta 44 is $299 new 4 i/o analog only. Delta 66 has the same plus s/pdif i/o.

This guy has the Omni studio for sale for $250. which has the delta66 card with the Omni Studio breakout box (a mixer box with preamps, individual headphone, monito,r and direct outs etc.)

I have one that i would sell as well, but for $300 including shipping.
