Hi
First post here

I produce live video broadcast on youtube, Ustream....

Yesterday, I received and tested a new pair of Tbone 700 EM. Phanthom was on. Tried to add gain.
No level on the main mix or control room, no level in Wirecast, no level in Audacity.

I started a recording with Audacity, stopped and by curiosity normalized.

The only thing(apart from the hiss and static) I hear on the recording are the clicks when I switched the pad from -10Db to -20Db or also switched to low cut.
Afterwards, I recorded with an old SM58 to test the board. everything was fine.

Since I hear those clicks when I switched the pads on the mics, I guess the mics work..but im afraid they could be DOA and so I should return them asap.

I am not a pro and I wonder the following:
Is there anything I don't know about these mics?
Should I add a mic preamp before my mixing board?
Should I use exclusively XLR to XLR opposed to XLR/Jack?

Thank you in advance any kind of leads or help

One not working I would say you have a mic problem. Both not working, you have a setup issue. Where are you getting your phantom power?

I think you have to use XLR to get the phantom power to the mics. I am not 100% sure, others will confirm.

Thanks for the fast reply

I agree with you.
Both mics dont work. Set up is easy, i dont see where im going wrong though
Phantom power comes from my board, it is integrated
Gona buy XLR to XLR asap

Yes you need XLR cables for phantom, no phantom on jack plug. The SM58 does not need phantom, but even the SM58 will be better with a XLR to XLR cable.

Alan.

Allan,

thank you very much for the reply and confirming the XLR to XLR is needed for phantom pwer
