One of the biggest abuses

of compressors is digital recording. Too many people set the levels of the quiet sections so they are fairly high in the recording, then they use the compressors to keep the hot parts from blowing out the top and clipping. What you end up with is a loud compressed sound with little dynamic range.

I prefer to set the recording level to the loudest parts and let the wide range of the digital world capture all the sound. From the scope view on the Rush CD--it's pretty much just noise with little dynamics.

Personally, I always thought Rush sucked anyway.

I have been having a similar problem. I love Metallica, and the way that their albums sound... except this new one. IT SOUNDS LIKE ASS! The snare rings and the toms ring, the vocals are too dry and up-front, and you can bearly hear the bass! Screw Bob Rock and Metallica for letting such a long anticipated CD release end in me throwing the disc into the fire!

That's an interesting article but it must have been posted here about six times now. This is not a comment on whoever it was that posted it this time, I mean if you just found it, you just found it and it's well worth a read, but WHAT IS UP WITH PROREC?

That things been there for yonks and they never seem to put new articles up any more. Is there anybody in there?:)
