I was searching the GC site for any interesting deals and found an Avalon DI for less than $500... if one were to run a mic through a standalone phantom power and a impedence transformer and then into the DI would that make an Avalon mic preamp for only ~$525?

Where did the preamp come into this story? A DI or phantompower has nothing to do with a preamp.

An impedance transformer is a DI or am I wrong?
