Not good. From the look of the box it's from the 80s or older. They usually have a date of manufacturing on them, not sure why this one doesn't. It's probably recorded on Ampex 406 or 456 which would now be suffering from sticky-shed, and you'd need to bake it before it could be played (Yes I have baked alignment tapes - times is weird)
IEC/CCIR is the correct EQ for a 38 but you need a 15ips tape. If you want to get a new one:
The originally specified MRL was a 31J229 (1/2" 15ips IEC +3 level [250nWb/m]) but they are expensive ($225US) and contain more frequencies than you really need
The short cal tape is 341-043-482-100 for +3 level and 341-043-512-106 for +6 level ($140US)
I don't remember off the top of my head if the 38 likes being aligned at +6 355nWb/m. It's a good idea if you can do it, but it might run out of range on the rec/repro level trimmers. At any rate, you can do it using a +3 level tape (setting the tones to play at -3VU instead of 0), but it's not quite as accurate due to VU meter linearity issues. (It's better to use an RMS voltmeter instead)
