Is that the SM7 mania, or the SM7B mania?

Doesnt the lovely Be&^%@&()ger company make an interface with phantom power for something like $20 bucks or the like?

Seems like a decent place to start with a very DECENT free mic (you should try one....they really are pretty good sounding....I owned two for my PA system...) and just wank away. I think if you're not recording on a patch or 'drumsand' and your mic stand isnt being used as a kik drum or you're not foottapping on it, the self noise should be fairly low.......Which on that particular mic is anyway...I'm just sayin...

Sorry...they are the same mic...the B has a better holder.

Uhhh....thanks. It was a joke. I first encountered the SM7 in around 1977 or so....I've owned two. A 7 and a 7b. And yes, the mount is much better in the 'b'. My 7 had a cradle I built out in the shed.........

And a better mania!!!!

Sadly not true, there are those that seek out the original letterless version, presumably because of the lack of the extra magnetic shielding, or perhaps concerns about Mexican craftsmanship . . .

Do you think they added the sheilding because around the time that it was added, the radio stations had all begun to use video monitors to display the caller messages and such?

It certainly had nothing to do with the then almost unheard of usage of this mic in the studio. At least not to the level of its use today........

Don't know, that is possible and I see 15kHz or whatever that frequency is leaking into stuff all the time. Shure, certainly back in the day and I hope still was pretty much characterized by good engineering, so they may have just made the improvement because they thought they should.
