Is something wrong with my Mackie?

My VLZ 24.4 mixer has an interesting occurence...... All the channel faders except for channel one have little clicks when you slide them. they almost sound like detent clicks except they don't seem to be at regular intervals. So either there's a problem with channels 2-24 or channel one lost its detents.

Any thoughts?

Fader might be dragging the across the line paint marks?

Yeah I'm gonna try the endust. The click sounds too mechanical to be something like dragging on the paint lines.

Anyone here know is Mackie uses detented faders? I'm not sure I've ever heard of someone doing that before, but I suppose its possible.

there has to be a reason that its happening.

Are these clicks in the audio, or are they mechanical only?

Mackie does not use any kind of detented faders for channel faders. All that is is the plastic dust guard on faders underneath the chassis. They tend to expand due to heat over time and scince they are mounted underneath the chassis and have a definite area that they are designed to live in, they will ripple around the fader slot openeing and cause that sound that you are talking about. Its of no effect to the performance whatsoever.

Peter, thanks for that post. that was some solid information right there. I wish I had known that this morning. I had a guy come look at it yesterday and then he told me this morning that he was going to pass on the board because of that. I think I'll email him back though and tell him that info.

Thanks.
