Is my Shure SM57 a fake ?

I don't know.

Why don't you take a few more pictures.

There's just not enough visual imagery for me to make a determination.

:D

one more thing I always heard about the fakes was that the wires inside were not even long enough for you to unscrew it and look inside....that they would break before the mic was pulled apart....

I know that on my knock offs I can take them apart just fine. I think that there might be more than one manufacturer of these knock offs so there really is no consistency plus it seems like they address alot of the things that are posted on the ebay tutorial and other "how to tell a fake" sites. I also have a 58 knock off that sounds good, just not like a 58. I use it once in a while over other options. Those 57s sound awful though, no good use for them.

It is a pretty safe bet that if you paid less than $80 U.S. for a new 57 that it is fake.

I've got 1 57 and 1 58....that's enough fer me. I don't like 'em too much.
Shure '55's have a visual appeal but other than that...,meh.

Mmmh... Interesting... This looks like a SM-57. If this hasn't the "T-Bone" sticker, I wouldn't see the difference...

You know, the t-bone's hole configuration at the mics xlr plug matches the thread starter's mic completely. My sm57 has only two holes. I now wouldn't be surprised if your mic is actually a £25 t-bone. Even the mic clip follows the t-bone mic range design. The dickhead seller on ebay looks to have bought real shure mics, kept them (or sold them) swapped the grills onto the t-bones to make them look like the real thing & even supplied his victims with his old shure boxes & documentation. He probably would have earned about £80 for this stint. You need to contact ebay. This guy should be gassed.

Yes, I agree with your theory. I think I have a T-bone at home, not a SM57...

Even the mexican one I bought a few years back sounded inferior to the original US made ones from years back, the US ones had more of a dark silver colour for the barrel from what I remember.

So it appears that all SM57 /58's are made in China then? It doesn't help that companies don't really give out the information when they change production of a long established product. Nor do the sellers & shops!

Many many many thanks for this link !
I now am sure this one is a fake. :(
Even the box code is the same as the two fakes.

Unfortunately the counterfeiters are very good at what they do, and I imagine they will change things to make the facke an even closer copy.

Here is another link with great pics of inside/outside of a fake: http://www.xmission.com/~jdjonsson/fakeshure.html

In that example the fake has two orange wires. But that would be an easy change for the counterfeiters to do.

Your mic came with all the same stuff a genuine mic should come with, except the clip looks like a generic Chinese clip.

Shure will give you the most definitive answer, show them your pics (or this thread). You can ask them here: http://shure.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/s...?p_sid=EW8aq8Xi&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=

The sad thing is that if someone does get a fake microphone on ebay, you can bet that it'll be put straight back on there for someone else to fall victim to. I think that designs should be completely copyrighted by companies, I know they are in some way just now, but it's not good enough. It's too easy just to buy a few t-bones and sell them on with a replaced grill as a real 57. Companies should not be allowed to closely copy the design of other companies products, there is only one person that loses out - the consumer. This is just ONE microphone we're talking about at the moment, now the contributers & thread starter will know how to spot a fake sm57, how about all other mic models?!!

Companies should not be allowed to closely copy the design of other companies products

That's behringer fucked, watch them sink & burn

Thread necromancy.

Does your mic sound good? It does?

Don't worry about it.
