Is my Joemeek broken?

I have a VC3Q. When the input gain is raised above 20 or so, it seems to introduce quite a bit of noise, and when you engage the compressor it causes clicks & pops. At lower input levels, this is not a problem. I know this isn't the most expensive pre, but is this a normal limitation for the meek?

the VC3Q.

Thanks chessparov. The symptoms I am describing happen whether or not anything is plugged into the Joemeek. That was my first thought too. I will try & email Alan.
