Is my DP 24 supposed to be noisy?

Hi everyone,

I have been reading through these forums desperately seeking some answers to my predicament. I have just purchased a DP 24 after reading on here, seeing a few vids on youtube, and just getting sick of working on my computer. I downloaded the manual, carefully checked that it can do everything I wanted it to do, and then this evening I went and picked one up.

First off, I love everything about this machine so far EXCEPT its crazy noisy. I mean with headphones on it sounds like the ocean, or when you have a really bad flu and you get fluid in your ears. Like a rushing, white noise type of sound. This is with all the faders down and nothing plugged in. I also checked it through the monitor outs into my speakers and its there too. It gets much worse once the monitor level control is cranked past 12, and much, much worse once a stereo bus is engaged.

Of all the reviews I have ever read of portastudios I have never heard anyone complain loudly about how noisy it is. What do you think... I presume I have a defective unit? Or is this normal? It seems unusable to me, the white noise is actually fatiguing when using cans.

As I said, I love everything else about the unit... but yeah. Also, if any of the preamps are cranked up to "mic" its INSANELY loud, and total $%#%.

I await some input? (punny):wtf::cursing:

No, you're not the only one, as you can read for yourself in the thread "dp-24-i-love-so-far" on page 9 .

I have/had the same problem. When I'm using In-ears (32 Ohm) I hear a terrible hiss, if I use a AKG Studio Headphone (75 Ohm) the hiss is almost gone. So it's all about high or low resistance of the headphone you're using.

I noticed it also, but last night I had someone com over to do a vocal track, and I used my headphone amp at it was gone.

I have no problem with my sound. with my DP24 .but I have a good pair of sony studio head phones........your sound will sound like crap with any crappy headphone..............
