'Cause it should be. I just bought a nice mic yesterday, and I want more! For me, it comes in phases. I can lose the urge to buy more for weeks at a time. I guess I just get addicted to hearing their differences, and I think I get vaguely excited by a really amazing acoustic guitar tone. I know, I know, it's pretty disgusting. :D

Anyone want to share their degrading stories of microphone addiction with the rest of the group? Or are you all still in denial?:)

I think I have too many, and I'm considering selling some of the ones I don't use as often.

Yes indeedy! The diagnosis is OCD, Obsessive-Cumpulsive Disorder. If you do something, anything, to a certain point, you have an obvious problem. Wash your hands 300 times a day, you're looney. Buy *enough* mics, and you're there. Of course, in a full blown case, you actually manufacture them.-Richie

Just cuz you'ra paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you!

APA Diagnostic Classification
DSM-IV

Impulse-Control Disorders Not Elsewhere Classified:

Intermittent Explosive Disorder | Kleptomania | Pathological Gambling | Pyromania | Trichotillomania | Impulse-Control Disorder NOS (312.30)

It would fall under the last classification:
Impulse-Control Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (NOS)

If we get enough neurotic stories here, we could send them into the American Psychiatric Association and get a separate classification - GAS?

Its a dark, cold road.

But just because they're out to get me doesn't mean I'm paranoid.

So Chess.
Whachoo pimpin?
whachoo gots?
whachoo gots maing?

Did you ever have that dream where you're buying mics and then you wake up and you're buying mics but its a dream and then you wake up and your buying mics and then you wake up and you're naked and all covered in mics and all your furniture is gone and you're cat is walking out the door with his bags packed sayin "I'm fuckin outta here, jack". ?????

BTW.... wtf is "intermittent explosive disorder".
Is that like severe chronic diarrhea????

Warren,

I thought I recognized your name from another bbs.

Sorry and completely off topic.

But is it true that you changed your PC from ACPI to Standard PC and were able to run 15 separate instances of plugins? I think is was a thread on the Amplitube Plugin?

I finally switched mine over a few weeks ago and noticed a slight increase in performance but noting like that.

Diagnostic criteria for 302.81 Fetishism

A. Over a period of at least 6 months, recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving the use of nonliving objects (e.g., microphones).

B. The fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

This may be part of the diagnosis in some cases here. :)

I'm on another buying binge. Thankfully, I haven't maxed out the black-budget credit card that I kept after I got married. Between that and my paypal slush-fund, I'm at least not spending grocery money.

The 1st step in the healing process is to admit that there is a problem :o

Of course, Crazydoc! You're right! Gear fetichists, that's what many of us (including me) are!

It would be nice to hear a qualified opinion on how "Gear fetichisme" relates to Gear Acquisition Syndrome....

You have NO idea.
Track's right.
After you've satiated your microphone lust, then you get to look forward to a pre-amp addiction.:p
After that, well, then you're into compressors.
Then your room needs to tap your wallet for sound treatment.
But its not isolated enough, and its the wrong shape.

Next thing you know, you're building something like this in your backyard:

How can it be a problem if it's not a problem?

Nice crib, Michael...for me a 2-car garage sufficed as the donor host.
