Is it so?

I’ve always been in the end user application, but I’ve just noticed how predominant mids are in recorded music, moreso in guitars than even vocals, courtesy of decent monitors (that I've noticed this).

Now I have to unlearn everything I thought was correct.

Amazing how it all cleans up with just a bit of equalization.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, (and I know I probably am)

post script: What would be the best way to learn the assignment of frequencies???

Would this be courtesy of a privious diet of "HiFi" playing with a ton of bass and high boost?

Ear train with a sweepable (or graphic) eq. Pick tone ranges in music or solo tracks and zero in on them and note the frequency on the eq. After a while you'll get real close right off.:D

Courtesy of "HiFi" and my own abhorence/misunderstanding of mids.

I record "in the box". Do you know of a good/inexpensive (yea right!) graphic eq plug in? I have some bundles of software I haven't really dug through, maybe I already have one.... (I'm not at home now).

Do you mean: Isolate a band on the eq (crank 'er up, cut every other band) and listen for the predominant instrument/track.
I assume also that you mean, for instance, while listening to your favorite bands new CD?

It's kinda like, all my life, I've been listening to music, but not REALLY listening to THE MUSIC !

thanx,

Glade to help. :D
You don't necessarily need to cut on the other bands, just boosting usually does fine. Feedback hunting in a P/A setup is a good off-shoot too.
Any music and solo tracks can be worthy victims!
