I think instrument cables are un-shielded and pick up a lot of noise. They are also unbalanced. Doesn't the Audiobuddy have balanced ins? That's what I'd use.
Guitar cables are shielded, and will work just fine. Speaker cable would work very poorly indeed, since it is not shielded: you would be very likely to get major hum and noise problems. And the high-zoot recording cables are (IMNSHO) a waste of money. Get a short guitar cable and use it in good health.
It's not that it's crappier--it's just for a different purpose.
The signals being pushed through a guitar cable (like from an intrument to an amp or a pre-amp to a recorder in your case) are usually very weak and prone to interference, so a thin conductor is okay but it must be shielded to keep the cable from acting like an antenna for all kinds of electrical noise.
The signals being pushed through a speaker cable (like between an amp and speaker) are much stronger and unlikely to be compromised by interference. They need bigger diameter conductors to handle to power but don't need to be shielded.
The signal from your audio buddy falls into the former category.
