Intergrating analog desk with PC Nuendo rig

So, I'm lucky enough to have a pretty nice set up right now with a PC based Nuendo rig, Motu 828 mkII a couple of Joe Meek pre's , Behringer pre, lexicon lxp 15. etc.
I moved to Nashville in 2000 from the UK where I had a pretty nice set up over there, Adats etc, but what I really want to do is bring my Allen and Heath GS 3000 (24 ch) over here and intergrate that desk to work with my current Nuendo set up.

I can always use the pre-amps from the desk as they are pretty good, and of course there are a couple of tube pre-'s on this desk.

I love the ultra user friendly automation on the Nuendo prog, but what I'd really like to do is have it both ways, so I can run the mix back through my desk and use the EQ and effects sends on the desk if I want to.

If I did do this, I'd also like to get hold of an 8 track analog maybe to use for the last 8 channels on the desk. This way I'd truly have the best of both worlds for digital and analog.

I love the Nuendo prog, but I really miss the hands-on approach of the old desk, and I hate to think of it lying around gathering dust.

Oh, by the way, if anyone knows of a meter bridge going for the GS 3000 24 channel, please let me know. I wish I'd have got it when they were still making them.

So, what would you guys do???

Why not pick up a good 8 channel ADAT AD/DA converter, track into Nuendo (at up to 16 tracks at a time), and send your individual tracks or stems back out through the MOTU and DA into your desk. That way you can use plugins in Nuendo, or outboard through desk, both at the same time.

That's what I was thinking.

The only thing is that when I use Nuendo and the automation on it, you send the audio mixdown back to the program instead of going to the desk.

How would I get the stereo signal from the desk back into the PC?
Maybe using mixback??
So I'd come out of my stereo main outs and back into a stereo channel on the Nuendo prog??
