if i were to get a mixer such as the Alesis MultiMix 8USB Mixer with USB and DSP, do I also need an interface? (I'll be recording with a computer)

thanks

No, in this case the mixer is the interface... Provided you install any necessary drivers, you just plug it in via USB and hit record! I believe it also comes with Cubase if you dont already have a recording program.

The multimix 8 usb ONLY sends the stereo mix down the usb pipe. NO individual tracks! It is NOT an 8 channel interface, it's a 2 channel interface. If you want the 8 channel interface, you need the firewire version.

There are some mixers that include firewire interfaces, that will stream each individual track to your PC. The yamaha nrv-10, mackie onyx (with the optional fw card), and phonic helix mixers come to mind.

http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--PHOHELIX18FWMKII $500 16 channel
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/NRV10 $700 8 channel

and the cheapest mackie option is 12 channel for $600, + $450 for the fw card.

can I use those 2 channels to send individual tracks? I'm a 1 man band so I don't need that many channels that will send individual tracks correct? thanks a lot!!

what about the Behringer XENYX 1204?

Yeah, you can send 2 indiv. mono tracks with the xenyx, you just pan one 100% left and the other 100% right. Drums will be the only tough thing, youre gonna have to get the mix right during tracking cuz you won't be able to adjust it much later. Unless youre using ezdrummer or something,
